    Words of Confidence

I take great pleasure in endorsing Treasures in My Spiritual Hope Chest.

In this book you’ll find some nuggets of truth that’ll help you, challenge you, and perhaps encourage you along your Christian journey, and it doesn’t compromise the integrity of God’s Word along the Way.

So often you find authors, teachers, and preachers who use various bible versions that do not even say the same thing. It’s refreshing to know people like Marj who clearly stand on a foundation that is sure.

Marj is a faithful member of Hilltop and has taught our ladies Sunday school class for several years. She is faithful to the doctrines of Scripture taught by God’s Holy Word. Her insight to the Scriptures has been due to careful study of the King James Bible and a desire to learn what God has preserved for us in His Word.

    Dear Readers,

I think you'll find the inspirational thoughts presented throughout this book to be very strengthening and spiritually helpful. They are supported with an abundance of scripture that will help you in your journey with Jesus through the Christian life. This will also help you help others.

    Dr. Bill Rains,

    Founder/Pastor of Mission Baptist Church

When I first met Marj back in 2002, I’d been saved for about ten years. Due to my childhood, I viewed God as a harsh Father who quickly punished the smallest mistake. But Marj knew what God was really like.

As my Sunday school teacher, she taught me about God’s many attributes and how to walk the Christian life. Her teaching completely changed my warped view of God, gave me an intense love for His Word, and taught me how to apply the principles of His Word to my life.

Treasures is a very practical devotional, and I recommend it to those who want to grow spiritually.

    Why Use the KJV?

    by

    Toby Strebe

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

    II Timothy 3:16-17

All scripture does not mean all translations. Each writer was inspired by the Holy Ghost when they wrote the words God gave them. Inspiration only applies to the original manuscripts. Copies or translations of the original manuscripts do not require inspiration since the words of God have already been written down. But once the men of God recorded them, His written words required preservation.

The protection of God’s words are vitally important when copying or translating the texts, so God promises to preserve His words.

The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever. Psalms 12:6-7 KJV

Until the invention of the printing press in 1440 A.D., the early church copied the inspired texts by hand. God protected His words during the copying. The original manuscripts have since been lost or destroyed. The preserved texts of the New Testament are known as the Textus Receptus, also called the Traditional Text.

By 1604, an English translation of the Bible commenced. Fifty-four godly men (broken down into six committees) were selected and approved by the King of England to translate God’s Word into the common language. The King James translators utilized the Masoretic Hebrew text for the Old Testament and the Textus Receptus for the New Testament. After the translation was complete, the committees were disbanded. God protected His words during the translation, then disbanded the men so future changes could not be made.

Inspiration brought God’s words into written form while preservation protected His written words during the copying and translation. God provided the English-speaking people with a preservation of the inspired texts. Since God’s preserved Word is already available, new translations aren’t necessary. They don’t serve God’s purpose.

So, then, why are there so many different translations available and how do we know which one is actually the preserved Word of God?

We’re involved in a spiritual battle with evil forces, and Satan will do anything to keep people from knowing the truth. And since this deceiver, who appears to mankind as an angel of light, can’t keep people from reading God’s Word, he inspired mankind to produce many versions of the bible, corrupting God’s message, watering down the plan of salvation, and eliminating verses.

The Secret of the Bible’s Copyright

A simple tattle tale sign to know if the words of God have been altered or tampered with is to look for the Bible’s copyright. Keep in mind that copyright laws haven’t always existed. So prior to 1710, printed books were not copyrighted. However, national copyright laws have since been standardized. The purpose of a copyright is to protect the work of an author, publisher, or printer. No person can copyright somebody else’s written work.

The translation of an uncopyrighted manuscript from one language to another remains uncopyrighted because the authorship hasn’t changed. To copyright different versions of the Bible, the translators are required to rewrite the text to such an extent that changes the authorship. It has to be their words, NOT God’s words and not a translation of somebody else’s.

The King James Bible, however, is unique because, in the United States, it’s not copyrighted. It’s in the public domain. Any person can hand copy or print the entire Scriptures, if they choose, without plagiarizing or copyright infringement. Isn’t this how God preserved His words before the invention of the printing press or copyright laws?

Only One English Translation is Authentic and Authoritative

A good preacher or Sunday school teacher should only use one translation because they don’t all say the same thing. For instance, let’s suppose you’re studying the doctrine of the tabernacle in the wilderness. You turn to Exodus 36:19 in five different translations.

Exodus 36:19 KJV (1611) And he made a covering for the tent of rams’ skins dyed red, and a covering of badgers’ skins above that.

Exodus 36:19 NIV (© 2011) Then they made for the tent a covering of ram skins dyed red, and over that a covering of the other durable leather.

Exodus 36:19 ESV (© 2001) And he made for the tent a covering of tanned rams’ skins and goatskins.

Exodus 36:19 NASB (© 1995) He made a covering for the tent of rams’ skins dyed red, and a covering of porpoise skins above.

Exodus 36:19 NIV (© 1984) Then they made for the tent a covering of ram skins dyed red, and over that a covering of hides of sea cows.

What did God say covered the tabernacle? Was it badgers’ skins, durable leather, goatskins, porpoise skins, or hides of sea cow? It can’t be all of the above. If a preacher or teacher uses more than one translation, their doctrine is false. They don’t know the truth, nor can they teach it by using Bibles that say different things.

The King James Bible is set apart from all other translations in this respect. Many churches, primarily Baptist, preach and teach from the King James only. You can even search for King James only churches. But you’ll never find New International Version churches, English Standard Version churches, or New Living Translation churches. This is because all translations are given equal respect and authority. (Even
