Pacificity: A Wild Assortment of Poetic Odd Ramblings
By Van Allen
()
About this ebook
Let’s start with the premise that anyone, anybody can write poetry. There is a poet in every one of us. Surely some poets are more accomplished than others. Some are more recognized for their work more widely than others. That’s not to say poets who are recognizable are always better poets than others who may be less recognizable. Sometimes they are. Sometimes they are not.
Is there bad poetry? Sure. There has to be. Some poetry is average and some above and below depending on who the judge is. Some think Dr. Seuss is a poetic genius. Some don’t like Ralph Waldo Emerson and yet find Kendric Lamar stimulating.
Answer this question. Who is your favorite poet? I believe the best poets will say that they themselves are their favorite poet. Think about that. You toil and toll and spin and edit a piece of poetic work that very likely means more to you than it will to almost anyone else ever. It’s like kids. Your favorite kids are usually your own.
What I can tell you about poetry is this: If you like your poetry, if love your poetry, that is a beautiful thing. Certainly, there can exist a poetic piece of yours that you hate, that others love and vice versa. It happens. I believe the definition of poetry starts inside your own head and heart. Call yourself a poet. Write poetry that you like and some you don’t like. Get it out. Get it down. Turn the page and keep repeating this process.
Eventually you should arrive at a place where you can tell people that YOU are your favorite poet. I believe Maya Angelou is pretty spectacular, but she doesn’t move me quite the way Van Allen does. I am my biggest fan. I hope you are yours.

Van Allen Fiction by Screaming Weasel Productions is my latest work. I'm a former Captain in the US Marines who now writes thrillers and futuristic adventures, including stories with conspiracy theories, alien invasions, space wars, and of course the zombie apocalypse. In my 21-year military career, I developed expertise in both combat training early on and then criminal investigations later on. While in the Marines, I completed a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Texas A&M University and a Masters in Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Originally from Houston, Texas and currently residing in Frisco, Texas, I fancy myself a secret physics, statistics, and data nerd. I'm also known today for being a part-time tennis strategy and coaching genius...by my kids...sometimes.

Who am I? I am my favorite poet. I am a writer. I write. I am my favorite writer. I write. I write what I like. I like what I write. …mostly.
I’ve published a few books about the zombie apocalypse, a few short stories, a couple of memoirs, and a wild assortment of odd ramblings on social media platforms which I deny writing, but mostly, yes I probably wrote them. I wrote a pretty good and scary book called BEAR. Thank you for your honest opinions. Thank you.
After years of writing and collecting my poetry usually on my device, I thought I would share. So, I offer to you here, the best collection of poetry you will ever read from me until I create a new collection.
As you read, I encourage you to also write, to share, to feel inspired to produce your own poetry. Read me here. This represents me. You will see patterns here, themes, consistent predictable movements in the ether. I won’t do the work for you and force feed you my patterns. The patterns are in there. You should feel free to explore what they are. You can detect them. If you don’t, read this book again. If you detect a pattern, read this book again to be sure you got it.
I hope this wild assortment of poetic odd ramblings moves you.
~Van
The risk with writing is that no one will read what you wrote or that everyone will read what you wrote or that someone won’t like what you wrote or that the wrong people will like what you wrote or that the wrong people will hate what you wrote or you are the only one who likes what you wrote or that what you wrote today will not be what you would write tomorrow and that possibly ultimately you may actually one day hate what you wrote. The rewards of writing are much less obvious.

Don’t you wanna see me
Don’t you wanna dance on my fingertips
Feel my lips
Kissing all over you
Don’t you wanna see me
Dreams exposed
Waking unopposed
Finding ourselves naked in the sheets
Passions inflamed
Barely ashamed
We smile
Heart rates elevated
Wonderfully syncopated
I didn’t know you had a tattoo
Crisis solved
Unabsolved
Let’s do that again soon
You gimmicky little, whiny little…
Who told you everything would go your way
Who told you that you would win every time
Who told you it was okay to blame people
Where did you get the idea that anything was owed to you
Where did you get the idea that hard work guaranteed success
Where did you learn to be so dramatically egotistical
Who ever told you that you would be popular
Who ever led you to believe that you would get everything you want
Who told you that you were infallible
Who told you that today was your day
Who told you that nothing bad would ever happen to you
Who told you the world was yours for the taking
Who told you that you could get away with anything
Who told you that you couldn’t lose
Who ever said that everybody would love you
Who told you to say anything do anything, no one was looking
Welcome to the real world where you will find out
Once you find out, we’ll all be watching to see what you do next
Watching…
With You, Always All Ways
Testing our secrets
In this moment together
A rainbow at night.
Countless breaths we take
Bridge over troubled waters
I am here with you.
Countless promises
How could it be otherwise
Let’s play in this rain.
I’ve spent a lot of time with myself. You’d think I know me.
The end of Spring
When the bluebonnets bloom
Ride with me and
Tell me you love me
We’ll help that turtle
Get across the road
Ride with me and
Tell me you love me
Who’s gonna chase you round when you need it?
Who’s gonna catch you and make you pay?
Who’s gonna tickle you until you pee?
Will any of this keep you sheltered from the raging storms
Is there in any of this a method to the madness
You’ll be needing someone who knows these waters
Peace in the mist
The way to the sanctuary
Hold on tight
Grab me right here and don’t let go
You’re sailing with The Captain
We are on the way now
Sit back and enjoy this
Something amazing is just over the horizon
Seems pointless to have eyes if I can’t see you
Seems pointless to have lips if I can’t kiss you
Seems pointless to have teeth if I can’t bite you
Seems pointless to have arms if I can’t hold you
Seems pointless to have time off I can’t spend it with you
Sweet kisses
Let me be the one
You’ve got something I need
I love it when we’re alone
I’ll wait
I know what I’m doing
Rewrite the rules
Excuse me while I go maximum effort on this
Possible improbable
Revolution evolution
Let’s use it for what it’s made for
Let’s drive it like we stole it
Like we rented it
I find you beautiful
I found you, Beautiful
I’ll never give up on us
I’m going to love you
Let me be the one
Sweet kisses
I won’t hold my breath, but it’s kind of hard to breath underwater and even harder in space.
I’m up late or early
Thinking about you
Keep your eyes open
This will be worth it
You are about to enjoy this
I wish I was you
You are like
The sweetest nectar of all
The purest sound
Like a sugar crystal with a thousand facets
Like a flame in the night
Like rain misting in sunlight
Like snowflakes on the edge of a wind
Like the sun behind the moon
Intense radiating,
Immense captivating,
God, I pray…
I can help you.
Who said that?
I did.
Show yourself.
Wait, don’t turn on the light.
Why?
You won’t like what you see.
Then what do you want?
It’s not what I want. It’s what you want.
I want to be left alone.
You probably don’t.
You may be right.
Maybe you want something else?
I’d like some raisins.
You have a spectacular, beautiful, charming smile.
Lead with that and everything else will go smoothly.
Just don’t be afraid to use more of what you got.
They’re all yours, that smile, those curves, that umm umm.
They ain’t making you no money if you don’t put ‘em in the game.
People are funny.
I smile.
I work on it.
I laugh.
I say positive things to myself.
I do not antagonize people.
I compliment people.
I am the hero of my story.
I focus on the good.
I avoid gossip.
I meditate.
I crack people up.
I don’t argue, fuss, or fight.
If in a time of need, you call me, then you called the right person.
I listen to positive things.
I exercise.
I get enough sleep.
You can walk around like that, but why would you?
I have positive hobbies.
I counter toxicity.
I am nice.
I am delightful.
I like me some me.
Remember how you were treated bad and don’t you repeat that on someone else – your kids/grandkids, coworkers, employees.
