Harlee. Harlee Harte! Mr. Thomas screamed. "Are you texting? Are you texting in my classroom? Give me that phone."

Great. Busted again. Now the only way I can get it back is to have my parents write a letter…for the fourth time this semester. So lame. And how am I supposed to live? A reporter, especially a celebrity reporter like me, Harlee Harte, student columnist extraordinaire—needs to stay connected. You never know when the next great Perez Hilton or TMZ scoop is going to drop in your lap.

Mr. Thomas was standing by my desk with his paw out before I even looked up. For a big guy he can really move fast. I knew the drill. I put my cell in Mr. Thomas’ huge, outstretched hand. Satisfied, he pocketed it and grunted. The whole class was cracking up. What’s so funny? I lose my phone every week. It’s a common occurrence. Get over it, people.

Okay, settle down. Open your books to page 273 and answer the questions, Mr. Thomas ordered.

Oh, hello. Jack, that new kid, is looking at me. One way to get noticed, I guess. It’s a hot look too. I mean, he’s drop-dead hot, not like I’m hot or anything, though my friends, all three of them, think there’s hope for me.

Kiki…, I muttered under my breath. I almost forgot about her! I shot my hand up and waved it like a flag in a hurricane.

Mr. Thomas, I need to use the restroom, I said as I got up clumsily, almost knocking my desk over. I grabbed my bag and slung it over my shoulder. Oops…I clunked Jack right on the head with my oh-so-heavy, break-your-back book bag. I could feel my face turning red as I raced out the door. I didn’t look back, especially since I wasn’t sure whether or not Mr. Thomas gave me permission.

Kiki was waiting for me. That had to be a first. She was busy checking the stalls to make sure we would be alone—a habit I have become used to with Kiki. Sometimes I think she’s in the witness protection program.

This better be good, Kiki, I hissed with a hint of threat to my voice.

Kiki looked around, her big brown eyes wide, and got right in my face, whispering, Someone at our school won a date with Taylor Swift!

"No way. The Taylor Swift…country superstar Taylor Swift…beautiful, insanely talented, teen idol Taylor Swift?"

Right, the one and only. Listen, he entered a contest. Wrote why he wanted a date with her and actually, totally won! The date is this Saturday.

So who is it?

I dunno. Mrs. Marshall is making an announcement tomorrow at assembly.

Great. I’ll do my column on Taylor this week. I’ll get an interview since she’s in town. This is perfect.
