Hi!
I’m Harlee Harte :)
I write the celebrity column HarteBeat
for the Hollywoodland High School newspaper. It’s a blast! I get to meet and greet the hottest stars and hit the hip Tinseltown places to hang out and shop while I’m on the hunt. Being a columnist is hard work, but I just love the glamour and excitement! I’m always looking for the latest news about our favorite stars, so visit my Facebook or Twitter and see what I have going on or just say hello. Chime in on the latest fashions, cool beauty tips, music, celeb sightings, and advice on how to deal with parents, school, crushes, and friends.
I’d love to hear from you!
Harlee Harte
Guys, I have HUGE news!
I yelled a little loudly as I ran up to my BFFs in the cafeteria. I slid my tray of unidentifiable gloop across our table and plopped down. Several students swiveled their heads, but for once, I didn’t care if I had grabbed the attention of randoms around us. This was the type of news you wanted to yell.
What is it, Harlee?
Marcy asked, pressing her glue-on nose ring.
"I, Harlee Harte, celebrity reporter for Hollywoodland High’s Star, landed a press pass to the MTV Video Music Awards!" I squealed excitedly.
NO way! I’m sooooo jealous,
Kiki exclaimed, matching my thrilled face.
Way! Now I’ll have tons of celebs to pick from for my next column,
I replied. Normally, I had to chase tips and beg for favors to find an awesome celebrity to cover for my column. I’d dodge the paper’s editor-in-chief for days as I scrambled, but I always came through last second. This time though, no racing required. My smile was so wide, you’d think I’d WON a VMA.
With slightly less excitement, Marcy asked, How’d you manage that?
You know Matt and Matilda Martin?
The nerdy enviro-twins?
Kiki guessed correctly.
Just because they wear glasses doesn’t make them nerds,
I interjected. Be nice.
Truthfully, the Martin twins were pretty nerdy. But in a cool way. They were really passionate about the environment and had done some neat things as head of Hollywoodland High’s Green Club, like putting recycling containers around campus and selling refillable water bottles. I learned a lot of fascinating facts when interviewing them for the Star, and I even help with after-school projects from time to time.
Anyway,
I continued, their uncle is apparently some head honcho at the production company in charge of the show. He offered them tickets, but they’re going to a yoga retreat that weekend. They thought I did such a great job raising awareness about the Green Club that the VMAs would be the perfect place for me to find celebrities. So their uncle was able to give me press clearance! I’ll have my own spot at the edge of the red carpet with direct access to anyone. It’s like a dream.
At that point, I entered daydream mode. I pictured myself bantering wittily with Cody Simpson, getting the scoop on Katy Perry, and catching up with Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez, who would remember me from my previous columns on them.
Kiki interrupted my reverie. Omg, this is the best news ever. What are you going to wear!?! Maybe your black halter dress from Homecoming last year? No, this event requires a shopping excursion. When are you free to go?
Leave it to fashion Olympian Kiki to think immediately of clothes and accessories.
Before I could respond, my third BFF Luzie appeared at our table with her boyfriend Joey. She was the only one in our group with a boyfriend and acted all casual about it. I, on the other hand, turned into a blabbering idiot whenever my crush Jack came within twenty feet. At that moment, Jack joined at their side.
Hey! Isn’t it absolutely beautiful outside today?
Joey said. Why are you sitting inside our stuffy cafeteria?
It’s beautiful every day in this city but GUESS WHAT,
I said, barely addressing Joey’s comment so I could spout out my own news.
What?
Luzie asked, one white iPod earbud dangling with the other plugged into her ear.
Harlee got a pass to the VMAs!
Kiki exclaimed before I could
