The Art Of Small Talk & Effective Conversation Techniques - Irina Bristow
Introduction
For most people, casual conversation, or small talk,
isn’t an issue, and is a part of daily life. For most, however? It’s one of the most dreadful things you can ever do! This book will help address this problem. By the end of this book, you’ll be empowered to make this a part of your toolkit or arsenal. In this book will be specific steps you can take to take you from where you are? To the person wherein you are comfortable, confident, and competent, to speak to anyone, anywhere!
Since childhood, most people have been listening and talking to each other. To many, a conversation is as natural as breathing. The words flow naturally and easily, like a tennis ball tossed back and forth over a net. It's different when you make small talk with others. It's more like standing on stage with the spotlight on you and the entire audience. The fear of saying the wrong thing is overwhelming.
A sense of social composure depends on both engagement and experience. You cannot master small talk if you do not actually do it and put yourself out there. It's essential to be open to situations where you need to make new acquaintances, refresh old ones, and build relationships. Communication competence comes from being aware of your surroundings and the people around you. It also depends on your quality of interaction with them, how much you share, and how you respond. You need a lot of experience and practice to feel comfortable chatting and interacting with others, and you will find it easier to socialize and share positive experiences with others. It's okay if you don't like the idea of small talk. Many people don’t. It may seem intimidating at first, but once you get started and gain more practice, it will be much easier.
Small talk with people is an easy way to make friends, acquaintances, connections, and other professional relationships. If you have no idea what to talk about, choose something simple and universally relatable. Don't be too intrusive and ensure you do not get in their private space. Keep your points short and casual. Casual conversation can be described as informal.
It's a way to communicate with them in a friendly, relaxed way. Be pleasant and respectful. Keep your boundaries in check, and do not be too pushy if you are looking for common ground.
It would be inappropriate to divulge your secrets to a stranger, so it's better to expand your knowledge of common issues.
