Prologue

Amaka, a seventeen year old girl is the only child and daughter of Mr and Mrs Benson. She has gained admission into the University of Lagos to study Medicine. She is very excited and can’t wait to enter the university for the first time. Her parents noticing this try to caution her to be careful, and to always put God and them in mind when doing things. But all she can think of is how much fun she is going to have in school.

White Clouds

Scene I

[The scene opens to show Amaka in the sitting room. She is clearly restless. Her parents Mr & Mrs Benson are moving around, trying to make sure they didn’t forget anything.]

MR BENSON: Amaka!

AMAKA: [Slowly.] Yes dad.

MR BENSON: Come.

[Amaka gets up and walks sluggishly to meet her father in the room.]

MR BENSON: I hope you didn’t forget anything?

AMAKA: No, I did not.

MR BENSON: Go and check very well.

[Amaka rolls her eyes and goes to her bedroom. She sits there for about two minutes scrolling through her phone. She later gets up and goes to meet her father.]

AMAKA: Dad I have checked. I didn’t forget anything.

MR BENSON: Okay.

AMAKA: Can we start going now?

MR BENSON: Your Mother wants to give you some of her dresses.

AMAKA: [Shouts] No! I can’t wear such clothes please. This is a university, and you can’t go there looking like a masquerade.

[Mrs Benson enters.]

MRS BENSON: Amaka what is it?

AMAKA: I don’t want your clothes. If I don’t have enough I will buy when I get to school.

MRS BENSON: Why don’t you want them?

AMAKA: People will laugh at me.

MRS BENSON: How do you know they will laugh at you? People you haven’t even seen.

AMAKA: Mum I know.
