About this ebook

Modern lifestyles, characterised by sedentary habits and diets high in processed foods, contribute to the rising prevalence of Type 2 diabetes. The interconnectedness of our globalised society further amplifies the impact, making diabetes a truly worldwide issue. Developed nations grapple with the consequences of abundance and convenience, while developing countries face the dual burden of infectious diseases and the surging tide of non-communicable conditions like diabetes.

In the contemporary world, diabetes has evolved into a pervasive global health concern, affecting millions and posing a significant challenge to public health systems. This metabolic disorder, characterized by elevated blood sugar levels, comes in two predominant forms: Type 1, an autoimmune condition often diagnosed in childhood, and Type 2, associated with lifestyle factors and increasingly prevalent in adults.

However, amidst this health challenge, modern advancements offer hope. Technological innovations in glucose monitoring, insulin delivery systems, and personalised medicine empower individuals to manage their diabetes more effectively. Education campaigns, both online and offline, strive to raise awareness about prevention and management strategies.

As we navigate the complexities of the modern world, addressing diabetes requires a holistic approach. From promoting healthier lifestyles to embracing technological solutions, our collective efforts can stem the tide of this silent epidemic and pave the way for a healthier, diabetes-aware global community.

Owen Jones

Author Owen Jones, from Barry, South Wales, came to writing novels relatively recently, although he has been writing all his adult life. He has lived and worked in several countries and travelled in many, many more. He speaks, or has spoken, seven languages fluently and is currently learning Thai, since he lived in Thailand with his Thai wife of ten years. "It has never taken me long to learn a language," he says, "but Thai bears no relationship to any other language I have ever studied before." When asked about his style of writing, he said, "I'm a Celt, and we are Romantic. I believe in reincarnation and lots more besides in that vein. Those beliefs, like 'Do unto another...', and 'What goes round comes around', Fate and Karma are central to my life, so they are reflected in my work'. His first novel, 'Daddy's Hobby' from the series 'Behind The Smile: The Story of Lek, a Bar Girl in Pattaya' has become the classic novel on Pattaya bar girls and has been followed by six sequels. However, his largest collection is 'The Megan Series', twenty-three novelettes on the psychic development of a young teenage girl, the subtitle of which, 'A Spirit Guide, A Ghost Tiger and One Scary Mother!' sums them up nicely. After fifteen years of travelling, Owen and his wife are now back in his home town. He sums up his style as: "I write about what I see... or think I see... or dream... and in the end, it's all the same really..."

    Are You Suffering from Diabetes?

Those who think that they are at danger of diabetes should be on the look out for the warning signs. So, who ought to be looking for the signs of diabetes? Well, everybody to be honest, but especially those who have a family history of the illness.

Those who have a family history of diabetes are the most at danger, but next come the overweight and especially those chunky people who do not do any exercise.

The less exercise, the more chance. After those, it is difficult to say who may get it.

Some think that food additives may also be to blame. If this is a fact, then people who consume junk food, canned food and pre-cooked meals, including sweets are also at a higher danger. This would make sense, because not all the people getting diabetes have a family history of it or are overweight.

And plenty of people are becoming diabetic these days. Lots more than ever before. It is true that there are more desk jobs than ever before
