Muscular Cramp in Athletes
This book is a valuable learning and research aid for athletes and those studying vocational personal training and sports massage, and those studying other courses where treatment and recovery modalities form part of their undergraduate and post graduate degrees, this may include, strength and conditioning, sports science, sports therapy; sports rehabilitation; osteopathy and physiotherapy. Unlike other fitness and sports injury books ‘Muscular Cramp in Athletes’ has a strong academic focus, allowing the athlete, vocational and graduate coach/therapist to stay up to date with the latest research on the causes of muscular cramp. This title aims to address the scientific evidence behind commonly used prevention and recovery practices used by athletes when trying to avoid cramp, including, massage, stretching, dehydration, sweat loss, electrolytes and other supplements.

Steve Bedford qualified in Swedish massage in 1995 and sports massage in 1996. Further studies and qualifications have included diploma’s in sports therapy and sports injury management, certificates in NLP, clinical hypnosis, cardiac rehabilitation, personal training, mat-based Pilates, and a MSc in Sports Performance. Steve has worked at every Wimbledon tennis championships since 1999, 12 ATP World Tour Finals, 10 Queens club championships, The Laver Cup, and 2 seasons for Arsenal FC. He was also the unit lead for sports massage on the University of Bedfordshire’s sports therapy undergraduate program for 4 years, taught sports massage at the University of East London and Bath University on their vocational sports massage courses. Further lecturing roles have included, Health and Exercise Science and Sports Science at St Mary’s University and Sports Conditioning, Rehabilitation and Massage BSc course and Cardiff Met university. He has published in peer reviewed academic journals and is the author of ‘Sports Performance Massage’ (2021) and Recovery from Strenuous Exercise (2022) books.
