    Somebody's Darlings - B.J. Lamberti

    Meow Meow Cat

There lives a Tortoiseshell cat who wears silky black fur and a tawny mane. Meow Meow Cat looks intimidating with the ruffs around her neck. At the end of her face coarse whiskers bristle like antennae. All twenty-four whiskers are arranged just beside her nose on both cheeks with four parallel rows boasting three whiskers apiece. They are her pride and joy. Her wide hazel eyes are like yellow reflective pavement markers. They allow her to detect movement in near darkness. Her vertical split cut pupils let you know the measure of her sensitivity. Meow Meow Cat narrows her eyes to signal when she is aroused, angry, fearful or experiencing pleasure. This is especially true when she sees a catnip mouse.

Meow Meow Cat’s yowls compose up to one hundred different sounds. Often her yowl is drawn out and quite loud. The yowling continues until it is returned by other alley cats. One day Meow Meow Cat finds herself in an animal shelter after doing combat with a jealous, aggressive and territorial Siamese cat. It is at the website animal pet rescue.org recovery that she is claimed by her new owner.

Meow Meow Cat’s feral cat attitude isn’t the greatest in her new surroundings. She soon discovers she is free from other feral cats but now cohabitates with a Cavapo Cavalier King Charles named Ruffles. They are friends up to a point. They will share a rug, a soft chair or toys; however, when it comes to their food plates, a line is drawn. Ruffles stretches back her upper lip exposing her upper teeth in defense of her food. Meow Meow Cat arches her back, straightens her tail and swishes it in rhythm to the dog’s
