    About The Author

    INTRODUCTION

And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

    —2 Kings 6: 16–17 (KJV)

Do not be afraid! This is a promise from a father you can confidently trust. Fear not isn’t an old cliché. It is not an old saying that has lost its valuable meaning. In order to exceed the mediocre expectations of men, one needs to be able to escape the torments of fear. Fear has torments, and it can inflict unbearable stress on a person. Beloved, do not be deceived, each one of us at some point in time is subject to fear, but our response to fear is crucial. The above passage clearly makes us aware that the servant of Elisha was afraid, but Elisha quickly channeled his fear into God’s might and ability. He begun to look at the situation differently. His whole perception changed. Assuring himself as well as his servant of God’s defense. This level of seeing requires divine revelation. It takes prayer and God’s divine intervention for that level of seeing to occur.

Many people, Christians and non-Christians alike, get frightened by what they see. They only see the present and the many limitations it brings. They tend to fear because their eyes cannot see into God’s word, which promises His unfailing defense, love, and support in any situation we find ourselves in.

Elisha and his servant were all afraid of what they saw, but the difference was that Elisha was convinced and so sure of God’s protection, unlike his servant. In the face of fear, be reminded of God’s promises:

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea. (Psalm 46: 1–2 KJV)

It is my humble prayer that by the end of this life-transforming book, you can boldly come out from any shackles of fear as your eyes have been opened by the Lord, and you will be able to say to yourself and a friend to fear not! You can then proceed to confess your daily psalms, proverbs, and poems to the Lord.

    CHAPTER 1

    WHAT IS FEAR?

F ear has been defined in various ways by different people and in different books. Fear can be defined as an unpleasant feeling of being terrified that something bad is going to happen . According to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, fear is defined as an unpleasant often strong emotion caused by anticipation or awareness of danger. ¹

The dictionary definition of fear above brings us to the knowledge that fear is unpleasant and undesirable. Fear ignites a feeling of impending doom. It becomes a constant reminder that the opposite of good can occur at any time. It is an unpleasant state of being. No rational human being warmly and consciously welcomes unpleasantness. Even when unpleasantness comes unconsciously, drastic measures are taken to curb its manifestations.

In the presence of fear, one becomes handicapped and unable to make rational decisions. Fear makes you worry and feel uncertain. It makes you live in a constant state of panic. And your ability to concentrate is impaired. You cannot make effective plans or firm decisions when you are caught in the web of fear.
