    And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing? And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, Peace! Be still! And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. He said to his disciples, Why are you so afraid. Do you still have no faith? They were terrified and asked each other, Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him." –Mark 4:37–41

    What an incredible situation we have here. Some of the disciples were seasoned fishermen in their previous lives — used to being out on the sea and the rain. Yet here, they were afraid that they were going to drown. Worse, they assessed their predicament — dark, angry skies, powerful wind, lashing rain — then they looked at Jesus who was sleeping, and concluded that certain death awaited them. They’ve spent many hours with Jesus, witnessed miracles and had their own lives transformed through their relationship with him. Yet, they were not convinced that he could take care of their physical needs, in this case, their safety.
