Fables for Children - Good Kids
christmas spiders
Christmas had come to Germany and, of course, also to a small town hidden among the snowy mountains. Like every year, all its inhabitants prepared to celebrate the holidays with their families. They were special days and the houses had to be shiny, so they care about cleaning their houses and making them happy with the beautiful Christmas decorations.
It happened that in one of these houses lived a group of spiders with long legs and thin bodies, ugly but completely harmless. They were always hidden in a corner of the dining room, hidden behind a wooden sideboard with brass handles. They had been there for several weeks and the chosen site seemed safe. They had woven their strong webs and remained intact until now.
They did not have the landlady, ready to make their house the cleanest of all, appearing with the broom at all times. Unfortunately, this is what happened. The woman moved the tables and chairs, the shelves and the furniture, to sweep away the slightest speck of dust. The spiders, luckily, realized in time that he was approaching their little corner and fled in fright before being carried away by the relentless brush of the broom. They hid in a ceiling beam and watched the lady remove the cobwebs they had worked so hard to remove.
December 24 arrived and from their hiding place they saw the family gathered in the living room to assemble a beautiful Christmas tree, full of bows and wooden figurines. When they finished, parents and children enjoyed a sumptuous dinner and sang Christmas carols until late at night. Around two in the morning, everyone fell asleep.
The little spiders were eager to see this beautiful tree up close, so when the whole house was quiet, they climbed down the wall and nimbly climbed the spruce branches. They really enjoyed visiting the Christmas tree, sliding down its decorations and feeling the tickle of the pine cones in their guts. They went from here to there shedding silk threads and in the end they moved so much that the tree was covered with a huge spider web.
They didn't even know that Santa Claus had appeared by the fireplace to leave presents for the children. Approaching the tree, he saw that it was full of small spiders and that the decorations were not visible because they were covered with a large thick gray web. He liked these little creatures who were having so much fun... After all, it was Christmas for them too!
Smiling, he asked if they wanted to stay alive in that tree forever. The little spiders said yes, excited. Santa Claus touched the tree and the magic worked: the spiders turned into precious golden decorations and the cobwebs, sparkling garlands and silver threads that embellish and illuminate the Christmas tree.
Since then, many Germans have decorated their trees with long ribbons and have not forgotten to buy an ornament in the shape of a spider, in memory of this beautiful legend.
The rabbit on the moon
One day, hundreds of years ago, the god Quetzalcoatl decided to travel the world. His appearance was that of a snake adorned with green and gold feathers, so in order not to be recognized, he assumed human form and began to walk.
He climbed high mountains and through thick forests without rest. At the end of the day, he felt exhausted. He had walked so far that he decided it was time to stop and rest to regain his strength. Satisfied with everything he had seen, he sat down on a rock in a clearing in the forest, ready to enjoy the tranquility that nature provided.
It was a beautiful summer night. The stars twinkled and covered the sky like a huge blanket of diamonds, and next to them an orange moon seemed to watch over everything from above. The god thought it was the most beautiful image he had ever seen of him.
After a while, he realized that next to him there was a rabbit looking at him without stopping chewing something that he had between his teeth.
- What are you eating, cute bunny?
- Just fresh grass. If you want I can share it with you.
- I really appreciate it, but humans don't eat marijuana.
- So what are you going to eat? You look tired and you certainly have an appetite.
- You're right... I figure if I don't find anything to put in my mouth, I'll starve.
The bunny felt terrible, he couldn't let this happen! He was thoughtful and in an act of generosity he offered himself to God.
- I'm just a bunny, but if you want I can serve you food. Eat me to survive.
The god was moved by the kindness and tenderness of this little animal. She was offering her own life to save him.
- Your words move me - he said gently stroking her head - From today on, you will always be remembered. You deserve it for being so good.
Taking him in his arms, he lifted him so high that his figure was imprinted on the surface of the moon. Then, very carefully, he lowered it to the ground and the rabbit was able to stare in amazement at its own glowing image.
- Centuries will pass and people will change, but your memory will always be there.
His promise has been fulfilled. Even today, if the night is clear and you look closely at the
