    About the Author

    Preface

I want to start by setting clear expectations of what can be expected from this book. This book is a subjective yet thorough analysis of modern society through the lens of a young man in his twenties. Every idea and opinion that is conveyed in this book is just that; an idea, or an opinion. Facts and experiences are used as a basis to form all these opinions, but I can not necessarily call these conclusion facts.

A fact is a thing that is known or proven to be true. Many of the concepts in this book have not been proven and there may not be a definitive way to prove these things factual. That is what makes this journey so interesting.

It is not my goal to impose my will and force my opinion onto the masses. I want to spark the conversations that allows readers of all generations to evaluate and consider some of the ideals that are shaping today’s society. I am in no way trying to offend those on the other side of these topics, but I do find it imperative to have an unfiltered discussion on the current state of humanity. That is exactly what this book is; ‘a discussion’ nothing more, and nothing less. I want you to voice your opinions and if something jumps off the page at you; feel free to jump back at it. Never take anything anyone says as a fact without doing your own research; not even me.

I have two jobs for you as you read this book. First, I want you to form your own opinions about the topics in this book and lastly, I want you to become learned on the topics that you weren’t familiar with prior to reading this book. This means that you will have to do some research in order to be knowledgeable enough to form an educated opinion. The opinions formed throughout this book are based on practices and occurrences within today’s society.

I am in no way trying to belittle certain groups that participate in these practices or occurrences, I merely have a different outlook. In some cases, I believe that it is okay to be bias because we form these biases based on things that we know to be true and past experiences. I do not however think it is okay to force our biases onto others because no one in the history of humanity has had the same experiences and being bias about something doesn’t necessarily make you right. Therefore, it is extremely important to share opinions and have open-minded conversations. More often than not, the combination of two opinions could potentially form a third and lead us much closer to finding an absolute truth.

Humanity is not a linear spectrum; it is a huge miscue to treat life as if there is a black or white conclusion to every dilemma. We write history books and choose to focus on certain groups as if events that have advanced mankind were not taking place all over the planet with all groups of people. We have singled out events that are deemed important to certain peoples and demographics thereby limiting our history and, in some cases, losing chucks of the worlds’ history. This is the result of overlooking specific facts and definitive events from the worlds’ various peoples. However, the fruits of these events and peoples are already in the world. Opinions are important because they help in the understanding of situations, concepts and problems that cannot simply be deemed factual. The momentum of a great opinion is not always here to stay; in order to be great, an opinion must be accepted as a truth.

Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity still bears its marker from when it was an opinion in the head of Einstein. The word theory essentially means that there was a point when an idea was not accepted as fact. The theory never becomes a fact because we cannot prove it, but the preponderance of factual evidence used to back up the claim allows society to deem it as true. Another example of a glorified opinion is the Pythagorean theorem. It would be hard to find a mathematician that does not agree with this theorem but at one point in time it was no more than an opinion. It was accepted as true by experts because the evidence backing it up is believed to be true. We need to flush out all of humanities theoretical truths. This can only be achieved through communication and the spreading of fact-based opinions.

    Chapter I

The English definition of love is an intense feeling of deep affection but what does that really mean? I am not saying that this statement is false; I am just curious about the context in which this definition is truly applicable. How are we supposed to measure what is and isn’t deep affection? My problem with this definition is that it does not capture all aspects of what love truly is.

Love is an emotion that often cannot be put into words. Whoever came up with this definition did a good job at keeping things vague enough for it to sound relatively correct for most scenarios. Those of us who have experienced love in any context know that this emotion is greater than deep affection. It is indescribable, overbearing and insatiable.

Love can bring solace, anger, depression, pleasure, humility or all the above. Many of us experienced the transfer of love from our family into our soul before we could even walk. The mind of an infant can interpret love before language. Love can only stem from a being with free will and it is so powerful that we can teach love to other creatures and species on this planet. I want us to understand love because it has a huge role in the development of humanity and the progression of mankind.

During my sophomore year in college, I took a class called The Legal Environment of Business. This was my first night class ever; it was two hours and thirty minutes long. On the first day of class the professor told us to take out a piece of paper and write what we believed to be the purpose of life. This was a question that I had always asked myself prior to this class and I believe that I had a great answer. I always
