    Foreword By Barbara Potter

I met Maria Johnson Green in 2019 while she was at the Bradenton Bridge Transitional Center attending the Evangelism Explosion Level 2 class I was leading. As soon as I met Maria, I knew she was someone special. She is someone God has singled out to be a mighty warrior in His Kingdom. He has blessed her with extraordinary communication skills. It will be interesting to watch her grow over these next few years, and see where the Lord leads her. I know He has big plans for her life. She has surrendered her life to the Lord, and He has big plans for her. She listens to His voice. She studies His Word for her own counsel. He has placed in her the ability to reach people in teaching the Word, leading people to Christ, comforting the hurting, and encouraging the discouraged. She is amazing, all the while keeping a servant’s heart. Maria has overcome tremendous obstacles in her own life and continues to face trials and tribulations, however, she keeps her eyes on Jesus and continues to move forward as the Holy Spirit guides her. May God bless her and her family abundantly and do mighty things through her obedience to Him.

    Preface By John Patterson

In 2016, I was working as a counselor at a prison work-release when I encountered Maria Johnson Green. Maria had only been at the center for a few weeks and already had a reputation for questioning everything. She was unrelenting, requiring explanations that made sense to her and aligned with her Christian faith. With a reputation as a difficult client, she was reassigned to my caseload when her counselor left. Because of Maria's reputation, I dreaded having to complete a psychosocial assessment. I reluctantly sat down with her for an hour, fully expecting to be interrogated and told there was nothing we could do for her. However, in that short time, I listened to her questions and saw she wasn't being difficult just to be difficult. Maria was so committed to her walk with the Lord that she wanted assurance that our program wouldn't ask her to compromise her newfound faith. I distinctly recall walking out of my office after that first hour-long meeting and telling my clinical supervisor she may be the one. There is a saying that Jesus lives in prison because when people go to jail, they claim to find God, and when they get out, they seem to lose Him. The number of people claiming to have found God is so numerous, it essentially feels insignificant.

The prison culture ostracizes those who refuse to live by the code of the streets. An inmate who doesn't engage in immoral, unethical, or illegal activities is viewed as a threat. Doing time while staying true to Christian principles is incredibly tough. It was a struggle for Maria and it’s sad how she was treated. In a strange juxtaposition of roles, it was Maria who comforted me, reminding me that no weapon formed against me shall prosper and that if God brought me to it, He will get me through it. After my first meeting with Maria, I knew she was different. Rarely do you ever see a person of true faith, in or out of prison, and when you do, you recognize them immediately. Maria was one of only three such people I have recognized in my entire career. I wish I could claim credit for the amazing person and powerful speaker she has become, but we both know there is only one who has that power, and that one is God.

Maria's journey touched me, and I know that her story will touch all that hear it. From the depths of poverty as a child in Mississippi, to speaking to Sarasota's elites, her life is a living testimony to the power of God. I am excited to see where she goes next and know that more will be revealed, as she reminded me so often, in His time, not ours.

Chapter One Foreword By Shana Green

There is not one experience, no matter how devastating, no matter how tortuous it may appear to have been, there is nothing that’s ever wasted. Everything that is happening to you is being drawn into your life as a means to help you evolve into who you were really meant to be here on Earth. It’s not the thing that matters, it’s what that thing opens within you.

    —Oprah

I am so proud of my childhood best friend, Maria. We had so much fun as kids together through our many playdates and sleepovers. We have always lifted each other up. Our friendship helped overshadow things that were happening around us and I am truly thankful for meeting her. She has been through many ups and downs in life but has come out of life’s challenges victorious. By putting her trust in God, Maria was able to live the truth of Romans 8:37, Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. I hope that you will enjoy this book and that it will inspire you to push forward and live the best life God has for you.

    Chapter One: Born to Live

Before one can truly know themselves, they must know He who created them. But, if you didn’t realize you were created, why would you seek a Creator?

Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

    JEREMIAH 1:5

I was born to live, yet I lived to die. I lived by Y.O.L.O (You Only Live Once), but who am I? That’s a question I struggled with for most of my life. As a little girl, I dreamed of becoming this highly sought-after lawyer who would
