    Dedication

This book is dedicated to my pastor, Pastor W. Lonnie Herndon and my counselor and friend, Marcella Martin.

I cannot thank the two of you enough for your guidance and support through the most difficult times in my life. Your commitment to God helped me stay focused on Him and not the problems. Your counseling, your wisdom, your support and care are deeply appreciated. Thank you for holding me up and thank you for seeing the God in me when I couldn’t.

    May God forever bless you!

    FOREWORD

Do you wish to get well?

    John 5:6 (NASB)

This is the ultimate question when we understand that change in the form of healing is necessary whether it is spirit, soul, or body. Once we become aware that we can do better, it then needs to be decided if we want to do and be better. It’s an individual choice! No one can make it for anyone else! We must simply decide if the pain and/or comfort of staying where we find ourselves is greater than the uncertainty of journeying to the unfamiliar territory of wellness. Ms. Johnson is an awesome example of a female disciple of Christ who understood that she had come to a fork in the road and needed to decide if she would be the one in her family/ community/church to say, The buck stops here, and I will be well!!! She was willing to submit to being disciplined, counseled, trained, and mentored in order for the purposes in her life, already settled in Heaven, to manifest in full bloom. Fortunately, Ms. Johnson shares the how to as she experienced her journey. She does not approach the journey to wellness as tip-toeing through the tulips, looking through rose-colored glasses, or as the same for everyone. Yes, we are empowered by the Holy Spirit, but it is made clear that faith without works is dead, and studying the Word of God with praying and fasting are musts!!! There is no microwave theology in this book. Don’t get it twisted, the Holy Spirit can do microwave, but growth and healing of any kind are usually via a process. In other words, it takes time, a Bible teaching church family, a worn Bible, and friends who know how to pray with you and for you plus a lot of Kleenex!!

Sit back, relax, and allow the Holy Spirit to guide you into all truth for your life so that wellness is the call for your life and that of those who He has called you to disciple. Remember, there is VICTORY already available to us in the finished work of Jesus Christ!! Choose wellness!!!!

    Marcella Martin, M.S.W

    Acknowledgments

There are so many people who have been by my side during this journey that I hope I don’t forget anyone. I give all my honor to God for placing this baby in my belly so long ago. I am so thankful for the move in my life and the Holy Spirit that sat with me while I wrote. To my children, Marcus and Maiyan, who rode out this storm with me. I love you two with all of my mind, body, and soul. Everything I did and do is for you. We had some rough times, we bent a little, but we didn’t break. I’m sorry for any hurt that you experienced, but I know that you have learned some godly lessons and that you will always remember to pray. To my Mom Geraldine Williams, I thank you for your wisdom and love throughout my entire life. It made me the woman that I am today and helped equip me for this journey. To my oldest sister Lynda, who has always been the voice of reason in my life, I thank you. You have always been a mediator through difficult times and a source of love and support for me and my children. To Joe, the best big brother ever. Thanks for being the problem solver, the advice dispenser, and the encourager. I don’t think you’ll ever know how much you mean to me. Thanks to my sister Donna, who has been my biggest cheerleader and who saw in me what I often did not see in myself. Thanks also for being the one to say I love you when no one else did. To my ex-husband: I have said this before. Thank you for the challenges in our marriage. It is because of them that I am so much closer to God. All is forgiven. To Lisa and Tasha, thank you for being friends for so many years and for believing in me as I transitioned from the natural to the spiritual me. And to Tara, thanks for being a good friend, for being a role model and excellent mother and making me talk when I don’t want to. Thanks for holding me accountable to my dreams. To Michelle, thanks for being my first friend at Compassion and for your prayers, encouragement, and laughs. To my friends, Robin, Monique, Tiye, Tawanda, Reshaun, and Lynne. Many thanks for not being like Job’s friends. Each and every one of you rode this storm out with me. When I went left you went left, and when I went right so did you. Thank you for never judging me.

To my first Compassion wives group: Stacey, Bridgette, and Tammi, thank you for your prayers and support.

To Team Wifey: thanks for helping me live through it and reminding me that we did not have any bail money!

To my third Compassion wives group: thanks for helping me see the importance of boundaries.

To First Lady Kim, thank you for always supporting me spiritually and for parenting advice, and for your friendship.

Thank you to sister Sandy and the Sister Circle for supporting me and helping me organize my life.

    To Vincent Calloway: Thank
