Changing Your Mind-set in 30 Days - Linda Gail Ross

    Foreword

If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,

Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.

Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death, of the cross.

Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

    That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:1–11, KJV)

We were assigned to Homeroom 7–17 on September 7, 1971, the day after Labor Day at Charles R. Drew Jr. High School in Miami, Florida. Roll call. Linda Higgs, our homeroom teacher called. Present, she responded. That’s her. That’s the girl my sister told me about.

In my sixth-grade brain, she knew everything. She told me that while I was doing great things at my school, Gladeview Elementary, Linda was doing greater things—i.e. playing piano, public speaking—over at Drew Elementary. I couldn’t wait to meet her. We became fast friends, and the friendship has lasted more than forty years. God was indeed orchestrating our lives.

Linda is an anointed psalmist. She is a wonderful musician, accomplished pianist, and was trained in the classics; and she possesses a beautiful singing voice. She believes that as a man or woman thinks, so is he. So she stands on the promises of God by renewing her mind in his image. She no longer dwells on the failures of her past nor does she think that she will not achieve the things she believes God for. This book is written to make her vision for you plain and attainable.

    *****

The summer before we began at Miami Northwestern Senior High School, Linda had a personal encounter with Jesus and entered high school on fire for the Lord. She dedicated her life to the service of the Lord Jesus Christ. She made a personal commitment to the Lord, and her zeal for Christ has not diminished. She has endured many challenges through the years. God has kept her.

Changing Your Mind-set in Thirty Days epitomizes the way Linda lives today. Read this book out loud to yourself, to your children, and to your friends. Make it a bedtime story, a morning devotion, or a quiet time reflection. Share it with anyone who could use a word of encouragement. Reflect daily on the passages and soar. Linda guides you in thirty days to a new way of thinking.

As the subtitle suggested, For as he thinketh, in his heart, so is he (Proverbs 23:7)

    Be blessed.

    Acknowledgments

I believe everyone thinks that their parents are the greatest ; but we absolutely believe that our Ma, as she’s affectionately called, is, by far, the best Ma in the world. Our Ma was and is a source of encouragement even in the midst of adversity because she never pretended to be someone that she wasn’t. When she messed up, she acknowledged it and said I refuse to wallow in sorrow. Her outlook in life was always positive even though there have been many lonely and disappointing times. But her faith in God and her belief in God’s Word and his promises have sustained her.

When we messed up, she never said I told you so. She just said Okay, let’s get up and move on. Don’t worry about the negativity, I got you, and you know that God got you.

Our Ma didn’t make excuses for failures, and that’s why we know that Changing Your Mind-set in Thirty Days is a best seller because it has been tested and proven by our mother’s, Linda G. Ross, life. Please take the time to read our mother’s book. We know that you will be better because of it.

Our mother’s signature quote is I love you to life.

Well, Ma, we love you to life. And remember, you always say that as long as we are breathing, there’s hope. And our hope is in Jesus Christ because of your faith and example.

    —Forever Yours,

    Dawn, Jeanmaire, and Calvin

My friend, Linda, I’m so proud of you first for loving God enough to be a soul chaser, for being a blessing to the body of Christ, and for putting this thirty-day challenge in a book form, so we may be able to read, reflect, and be renewed. Having this thirty-day challenge in book form will give us an opportunity to be able to be a blessing to others so that they will be encouraged and motivated to think on those things that will bring peace, hope, and joy. I know that this book will be a blessing not only to the body of Christ but to humankind. Continue to be used by God, and I know that you will prosper in all your ways.

Redeeming Your Life: How Changing Your Mind-set Came Into Being

How Changing Your Mind-set Came Into Being

"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God" (Romans 12:2).

    Chapter 1

Not My Will but Thy Will Be Done

I hope that your thirty-day journey will be a reflective one which will give you insight on the power of your thoughts and how changing your mind-set will take you to the next level. What you entertain can be a blessing or a curse. What you imagine and how you perceive a matter can send you on a downward spiral , or it can thrust you into your destiny filled with excitement and bounty. When I was preparing this daily devotional/journal, I was in a dark place. I was preparing to write my life story. Through the course of some life-changing events, I realized that I wasn’t ready to share my story. In all honesty, it would not have been a true depiction of my life, and it definitely would not have been reflective of what I was really facing. It would have made for a good read, but it would not have been an accurate story.

When the Lord allowed me to take a look at myself, I realized that my mind-set was in desperate need of an overhaul. I needed my mind transformed into his image. I needed the mind of Christ. I had allowed toxic people to invade my emotions not realizing the subtlety of the attack until I was well into the battle. Whenever I would speak to one of these toxic people, it didn’t matter how positive I was. Or it didn’t matter how encouraging I was. I always felt like I was being dissected. I felt like I was being gutted like a fish. I felt depleted and angry. Then one hot summer on Sunday morning, July 26, 2015, to be exact, I was in a life-changing service at my church where the minister spoke. It’s your due season. As those words resonated in my spirit, I knew that it was time for a change and that in this season of my life, I was getting ready to reap the full benefits of blessing and increase.

I was at a place in my life where I finally said enough is enough and be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God Romans 12:2 (KJV). The light bulb was turned on. The chimes rung. I could see clearly now. The fog, the haze, and the blurred vision were gone. I was having a Damascus experience, and suddenly, there shined round about me a light from heaven just as it had done with Saul whose
