INTRODUCTION
Grampians National Park viewed from a distance
Grampians National Park is located in the Western District, Victoria, Australia.
Gray Nomad travel writer is comprised of the team of Reg and Kathryn Shell.
Kathryn is also known as Ryn Shell, author. Reg and Kathryn had been friends for seven years before they discovered they had a mutual love for the Gariwerd/Grampians in Victoria, Australia.
Reg was working in Western Australia at the time, and Kathryn lived in Victoria. In 1967, thousands of kilometers apart from each other, two shy, long-term friends corresponded across the country by letter.
They fell in love while talking about holidays in the Gariwerd/Grampians. Needless to say, the Gariwerd/Grampians was the first trip they went on together. They have been touring together now for forty-seven years.
Now as seniors, gray with an ‘A’ for active nomads, Reg, Kathryn, and their current travel companion, Indigo, are sharing a part memoir and part travel guide of a recent Grampians caravan tour with a dog.
OUR SPECIAL PLACE: GARIWERD/GRAMPIANS
Cloudburst over the Gariwerd/Grampians ranges in Victoria, Australia
Yes, the Gariwerd/Grampians is our special place, and we have celebrated many significant milestones there.
Reg and I also spent his long service leave there. Our daughters attended the primary school at Halls Gap, the small town and the center of the Gariwerd/Grampians. During that six-week holiday we hiked all the mountain trails for a second time. Halls Gap is the main town within the Gariwerd/Grampians and where we base most of our Gariwerd/Grampians trips.
Distances to Halls Gap:
Adelaide 501 km
Ararat 47 km
Ballarat 139 km
Horsham 71 km
Hamilton 97 km
Melbourne 251 km
Mt Gambier 219 km
Stawell 28 km
St Arnaud 102 km
For our latest tour, we stayed in our caravan at the Grampians Gardens Tourist Park. We have also stayed at
