    Confidence Quotient - Lynn Smith

    Introduction

Full disclosure: I am terrible at math.

Therefore, it’s incredibly ironic that I chose a mathematical term in the title of this e-book and used mathematical equations (albeit super dumbed down) to make the point that confidence is something that can be grown, and this publication will show you how.

How do I know? I’ve been coaching high-level CEO’s, thought leaders, entrepreneurs, and experts who are at the top of their game and one thing held true for every single one: they each needed to increase their confidence to achieve what’s next. For most, the next step was crushing it on TV in media appearances or crushing it on video, and the need for greater confidence was universal in order for them to execute this. Their confidence needed to grow and the strategies discussed here help accomplish this.

What is your confidence quotient or CQ? Not unlike your IQ being a score that defines your intelligence, your CQ is a score for your confidence. The difference between IQ and CQ is that your confidence score can increase with the right exercises. Generally speaking, your IQ never changes. When you follow the strategy I developed as a National Media Expert and veteran news anchor your CQ, confidence quotient, will grow.

I’ve been on television for 15 years for NBC News, MSNBC, TODAY show, and CNN Headline News so you must be thinking I am super confident. I am not an exception to the rule. Everyone needs to work on growing their CQ. That’s why the small print of my title reads confident person in progress.

    Here’s a recent example:

There I was standing in front of 50 C-Suite women having a full-blown panic attack while presenting my steps to Unleashing You: on-camera, on paper, and in the room. I know, isn’t that SO ironic? I was there to show people how to shine in the exact situation in which I was floundering.

My mouth was getting more and more filled with cotton by the moment. I couldn’t stop thinking in my head, Is this really happening? Then I began to panic about my panic and the shaking became more intense. I stopped to drink some water but realized, after looking into a sea of confused faces, that I needed to do something and do it fast.

After the fact I thought, why didn’t I just fake a fainting spell and explain later it was some unknown health issue? I am so glad I didn’t because what happened next is one of the best lessons of my life and career.

    I pivoted.

I blurted out, "This is not going well; I don’t know what is wrong. I haven’t spoken to a group in person in over 2 years because of COVID and I
