The day started just like any day. I went to work. I was a travel agent and Covid was beginning to affect all forms of travel, but, at that moment, we were busy as usual.
I called home. As it was the weekend, my husband wasn’t working. I knew he would have just returned from his bike ride. He seemed to be cycling longer each day since he broke his ankle last year whilst riding home from the airport where he worked. He was in an accident, a collision with a car. The driver wasn’t looking where he was going and the driver of the car literally ran over my husband and his precious bike.
I called home, always with the ideas.
Hi, it’s me. Do you fancy going to the cinema tonight? There’s a new action movie I quite fancy seeing,
I said.
Not really. I don’t want to see that film,
my husband replied, rather too quickly and coldly I thought.
Oh, okay. Do you fancy seeing something else?
I said.
I fancy watching that new war film.
Okay, let’s see that then,
I said. I didn’t mind. It had been a long day and I just wanted to go out and do something we both enjoyed rather than sit and watch television which was becoming a habit.
My husband was very quiet. He drove my car so I could relax and we watched the new film. I didn’t really enjoy it very much, but I liked being out just the two of us. I was working the following day but didn’t start until late, so I wouldn’t be home too late either.
When I came home, chilli was heating up in the slow cooker. I was so glad I prepared it the night before. I quickly got changed and dished up our dinner. We were sitting in the
