    Dedication

I would like to dedicate this book to my wonderful husband, Jerry, for being so patient with me while I was writing this book and for giving me the confidence that I needed to complete it. I would also like to thank my daughter Monica for supporting me in all life’s endeavors and convincing me to complete this book. Thanks to my son, Joshua, for believing in me and giving me kudos to keep me motivated. Last but not least, my daughter Bethany for helping me by proofreading my work and by giving her constructive criticism. I could not have done this without any of you. Thanks.

    Chapter 1

The phone rang. It was Tom, my husband. He said, Are you packed? I told him I had a few more things left to pack. He said, Okay, just don’t forget to call your parents and let them know we are leaving about five tonight. I said, Okay, I love you. And he said, I love you too. And we hung up.

My husband and I had been sweethearts since freshman year in high school. We attended the Oklahoma State University together, studying real estate law. We married after graduating from college. We have our own little real estate business here in Miami, Oklahoma. Tom and I have been married for two years and three months; it has been the happiest time in my life.

We had a beautiful wedding. Robin, my best friend, was my maid of honor. My friends from high school—Tammy, Lee Ann, Charlotte, Stacy, Julie, and Christi—were my bridesmaids. They all wore long beautiful purple dresses with lace around the neckline and the waist. They had laces with beautiful sparkling rhinestones. They all wore purple and white flowers in their hair. They looked so radiant.

I had on a long white gown with a huge bow in the back, with a six-foot train. My neckline had the same rhinestone lace that my bridesmaids had. My veil had white lace with purple and white flowers. I felt like a beauty queen just walking across the stage for the first time. It was the best day of my life.

Tom’s best friend, Terry, was his best man. He wore a light purple tux with a purple and white corsage. He looked nice. Tom had a white tux and a purple and white corsage. He looked incredibly breathtaking. The ring bearer was his nephew, Derek. He was three years old and wore a purple tux and carried a white pillow with purple and white ribbons around the seam. He looked adorable. The flower girl was my niece, Ashley. She was five years old. She was the daughter of my oldest sister, Dawna. Dawna wasn’t able to be there because her husband, Richard, was in the hospital. He was having surgery on his leg, which he had broken when he fell off the ladder while hanging the satellite on their house. Ashley had on a dress that matched the bridesmaids’. She had her hair in braids with little white and purple flowers in the braids and around her neck. Our wedding took place in my hometown Topeka, Kansas, in the Pentecostal church that I had attended most of my life. Mom and some of her friends decorated it, and it looked so gorgeous with white and purple ribbons and flowers everywhere.

My wedding day was on September 23, 1998. My youngest sister Cynthia; her husband, Tim; and their six-month-old baby attended my wedding. My mom and dad were there along with most of my aunts, uncles, and cousins. We were fortunate to have Tom’s oldest brother, Jesse; his wife, Pam; and their two children there. He was
