This prayer challenge aims to teach couples how to pray together to create the most potent connection a husband and wife can experience, spiritual intimacy.

Intimacy is a feeling of closeness where you feel emotionally connected and safe. Spiritual intimacy in marriage is the process of opening your heart, mind, and soul to each other and the Lord. It is a deep connection to the core of your being. Spiritual intimacy involves revealing your spirituality, listening to disclosures, and supporting your spouse without judgment.

Spiritual intimacy is developed when a husband and wife participate in spiritual activities, like praying, worshipping, and prioritizing God in their marriage.

Three other types of intimacy also build closeness and connection in a relationship. First, there is emotional intimacy which involves listening and understanding—second intellectual intimacy, the sharing of ideas and shared interests. Third, physical intimacy includes touching, holding hands, hugging, kissing, and sex.

So physical intimacy is between bodies, emotional intimacy is between hearts, intellectual intimacy is between minds, and spiritual intimacy is between souls (when one soul touches another).

When a husband-and-wife practices spiritual intimacy, a connection unites them like no other, they become "wrapped up, tied up, and tangled up in Jesus," and that's a good thing.

When a husband and wife pray together, they tap into the spiritual realm, not just to a high power or the man upstairs, but to the highest power, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Wonders happen in relationships where couples pray together.

It's no surprise that scripture shouts in Matthew 18:20, "For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them." Because of this scripture, the best place for a husband and wife is in the Lord's presence. That is where healing and forgiveness occur, wisdom is revealed, and peace is found. In the presence of the Lord, there is liberty, strength, courage, and empowerment.

No matter how good or troubled your marriage is, God will transform and upgrade your relationship if you dare to pray with your spouse.

I believe that if you pray with your spouse for seven consecutive days, God will rebuild, restore, and possibly even revive your relationship. After all, God is the initiator of marriage and wants your marriage to work out more than you do.

Congratulations, and thanks for purchasing your copy of the 7-Day Prayer Challenge for Couples. This book is a step-by-step training manual that contains seven powerful prayers for married couples. Each prayer takes about one minute to read through. Feel free to use the prayers as is or in your own words.

There are also bonus discussion questions, devotionals, and Bible verses to help support the central theme of each day of the challenge.

This prayer challenge is not about long prayers; it's about praying together with your spouse (even if it's only for one minute). A lot can be said in a minute, but more importantly, there is power in prayer.

If your spouse is not available to be next to you in prayer due to work schedules, sickness, military, separation, etc., you can still participate in this prayer challenge. You can pray over the phone or through live video services like Facetime, Messenger, or Zoom. However, the prayers in this book are meant to be prayed holding hands or physically touching each other during the prayer.

If you know there will be challenges getting your spouse to join you in this prayer challenge, be creative. Think of it as if you were trying to get a child to eat vegetables: many children don't like vegetables, but it's good for them.

My mom used to cut up the vegetables I did not like into small pieces and placed them in soup. It worked. If your spouse does not want to pray with you, ask the Lord to speak to your spouse and be patient. You do not want to force your spouse to pray with you. There's a reason this is called a prayer challenge.
