    I’M NOT A PASTOR

    I’m not a pastor

I just like the truth, and I go through stuff just like you do.

Trust me; I am learning, too.

I have my battles I must face

And I am only surviving by God’s grace because I believe Jesus is the way.

The way, the truth, and the life

I try my best to live right because of God’s sacrifice.

And the love that he has shown corrects me when I get it wrong,

And I don’t dwell where I fail; I move on.

I repent, and I forgive because that’s the way to live.

The love of God is real.

    I’m not a pastor, and I don’t preach

But there are people in the street God wants to reach.

So, if he called me to teach, then I shall teach.

I get it; some of you aren’t with it, but Jesus died for you, too, even though you aren’t living it.

You read God’s Word, but you don’t change because it never penetrated your heart; it just sat on your brain.

And that is not why Jesus came, for us to wear his name because none of us could bear his pain.

So, we remain the same, and God never sees the change.

    But God loves, loves unconditionally

And even now, some of you aren’t feeling me because you’re empty

But God can quench that thirst with so much living water that you’ll burst.

I pray today that you won’t stay parched and put God first.

He wants to save, but you don’t see because you’re too busy looking at me.

I am not a preacher; I just like the truth.

Jesus died on the cross for me and you.

If only you knew you would want him, too.

God told me to study theology, and it bothered me because I owed God an apology when I understood the methodology behind the prophecy.

I’m not a pastor; I like the truth

And I go through stuff just like you do; God transforms the old into the new.

It was his amazing grace that saved me and it’s his amazing grace that will save you.

So, stop looking at me when God’s looking at you.

I’m not a pastor; I just like his truth.

    ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I am blessed to be a blessing. I graduated from Liberty University with a bachelor’s degree in theology. I am a minister who loves the Lord and his leading. I attended Long Ridge Writer’s Group for a course in creative writing. I have always enjoyed writing and reading as a hobby, but I never imagined myself as an author. My journey on writing became promising when it became my purpose. I prayed and asked God, What is my purpose? And he told me, You are a writer. I asked, What am I supposed to write? and He responded, You are a writer for me. I now write to enlighten, to encourage, and to equip God’s people to do greater works in what we are called. I am married with four beautiful and blessed children. You can find me on Facebook under Sherrell Walker, and you can subscribe to my YouTube channel: Just B-lieve Poetry for spoken words and teachings. I want to encourage my readers to seek God’s face for the greater he has in store for the new you. Be blessed!

    BE THE ONE!

I REMEMBERED WHEN I used to want to be a part of the world. With all the things that my friends and family were doing, I made it my business to fit in so that I would not stand out. It looked like fun and they said it was fun, so I wanted in. I wanted to be in with the crowd even if they were heading down a dead-end road; at least I wasn’t by myself. The wild parties, the clubs, the talk, and the walk fitted perfectly in the life of those heading for destruction. The only defense I would have had on the Day of Judgment was at least I’m not the only one. I made the choices, and I suffered the consequences that followed, until I cried out to God for something different. I wanted to change how I walked and talked. I asked God to give me the insight to live right. And he answered. I don’t hold grudges or harbor un-forgiveness because I asked God to set me straight even if I was the only one. And he removed and is removing all those things that are unlike him. In the beginning of my journey, I walked alone. Many didn’t understand the transformation I was going through, and neither did I. It hurt to lose family and friends that I loved, but I had to bear my cross to follow him. I felt the loneliness from being left out until the Lord spoke to me and said, They are heading for destruction, and if you follow, so are you. Those tears dried up quickly. I had to remember what I asked God for, and that he answered the prayer that I earnestly and honestly prayed. He made what I thought was hard or impossible possible. God set a standard, and I chose to live by it. It used to bother me that my friends and family teased me sometimes for doing the right thing but not anymore. I realized that I made people uncomfortable in the sin that I used to partake. We can always justify our wrong with those that are a part of it. I am the light in the darkness, and I intend for my light to shine.

I chose to be that one. I recalled the story in Genesis 18:16-33 when Abraham pleaded with God not to destroy the city of Sodom for the sake of the righteous. God said, I have singled him out so that he will direct his sons and families to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just. Abraham started the request of fifty righteous people, Suppose you find fifty righteous people living there in the city-will you sweep it away and not spare it for their sakes? Abraham requested, again and again, all the way down to ten. God agreed not to destroy the city if there were only ten. But there was only one that got saved and it was Lot, Abraham’s nephew because of Abraham’s right standing with God. Lot and his two daughters got out alive. Lot did what was right in the Lord’s sight, and he was spared.

God calls us into a closer walk with him to save us. Abraham was called righteous because of his faith in God. God is proud to look around and say I have one willing to love me with all thy heart, soul, and mind. The children of God are no longer a slave of the enemy. We have the Holy Spirit living on the inside of us that has broken us free from the enemy’s captivity. Now, when I walk into a room filled with people entangled in sin, I don’t feel like I should fit in. I have been set apart, even if I am the only one. God only needs one to save many. I am proud to be the one. Glory to God for how far I have come.

    GOING TO CHURCH IS NOT

    FOR SHOW BUT GROWTH

D O I NEED to go to church, is like asking do I need to breathe? Yes. Over the years, the church has developed an opposing view by many people. And in the minds of many people, it has developed a reputation as being the worse place on earth when it’s the only place worthy of being entered. We conclude that the church is non-essential to our relationship with God. I’ve heard many people say that I can pray, praise, and worship at home. Yes, that is true, but are you growing or just performing? God originated the church, a place of gathering for his children, a place to call home. God adopted you into his family. The church is you, but the building is a teaching facility filled with possibilities for greater purpose.

In the book of Luke 2:46, Jesus was missing for three days and was found in the Temple, sitting among the religious teachers, listening, and asking questions. And when found by frantic parents who questioned his disappearance, he answered, Didn’t you know I must be in my Father’s house? (Luke 2:49). The church is the place where God’s people come to assemble. As Christians, the Bible states we are the church because the Holy Spirit now dwells inside us. The church is in you. It is the believers that make up the body of Christ, but how can the body not be in the presence of the head. Christ is the head of the church which is his body. (Colossians 1:18). The great apostle Paul wrote letters to various churches in the New Testament, and he presented the messages to the church. You had to be there to hear the news of God. These letters were to equip and encourage the saints to walk according to God’s word, which is his will. The messages sent to different churches covered numerous topics, and they were very informative and beneficial in the equipping of the saints today. The church is essential to our growth. God has given each of us a gift that functions well in the body of Christ. Some are called to be apostles, prophets, teachers, those who do miracles, those who have the gift of healing, those who help others, those who have the gift of leadership, and those who speak in unknown languages. (Corinthians, 12:27).

The church is a place for the hurt, the broken, the disappointed, the unwanted, and the left out. God wants you if nobody else does. God cares if no one else cares, but you will never know because you don’t go.
