    Kiyo Reborn - Love Files

CHAPTER ONE: REBIRTH AT THE GATES

    Saga: Reunion

    Arc: Kiyo Reborn

(It is a dark and stormy night and outside a terrible blizzard storms around a cabin isolated in the mountains. Inside, a woman uses a small match to light a lantern and walks over toward the bed where her young daughter lies beneath her covers attempting to stay warm.)

    Girl: Mommy?

    Mother: Yes, Alya?

Alya: I don’t like that story, can you tell me another one please?

Mother: Oh? But, dear, we’re nearly to the end.

Alya: (Pouts) I know, mom, but I already know this story and I want to hear something new and real!

Mother: Hm... Okay, uh let’s see... How about- oh I know. This is the story of Kiy-

Kiyo Narrating: -yo Nakamoto and my journey from life to death. I died buried in a cave with my spirit animal fox from hell, Nini and the two of us crossed over together. I woke up in a strange dark desert where sand constantly raged all around me. A green light flashes through the smoke and I can’t help but walk forward into the darkness of the storm. I walk through it and find a well-dressed individual before me in a garden smelling a fresh blossomed daisy. The storm is silent and removed from sight. He turns to me and asks me if I am ready. But he doesn’t ask as a question.

[Everything goes white and the world around transcends]

Voice: If you desire freedom you must first forge the keys to your self-made prison.

(Kiyo, a young man in his early 20’s awakes in a dark cave on a wide extending bridge forged from a strange type of rock material. Below the bridge is an ocean of lava spreading through the caves; behind him is a long pathway stretching to a doorway, around him is wide open space eventually leading to cave walls and alternate passage ways leading into other caves. He looks far out into the distance and sees a random group of souls stranded at a cave opening attempting to figure out how to cross over the lava. Kiyo stands to his feet and before him is a tall silver gate extending over 40 feet tall. Kiyo approaches the gate and as he lies his hand on a bar he quickly pulls it back as it singes his hand. He looks at his palm to see smoke rising from it and his skin quickly scarring. He lowers his hand as he looks back up he sees a giant three-headed beast on the opposite side roaring in his face, causing him to slide back a few feet. After it stops, Kiyo covers his nose and mouth as tears fall from his eyes.)

Kiyo: Ergh! What is that?! Is that what the stench of death smells like while being digested in a dog’s stomach?! That’s a bad boy; (Uncovers his mouth) NO EATING CORPSES!

(The three headed dog yells and tackles through the gate. Kiyo shrieks but stands his ground as the dog charges at him. He throws a punch with his left fist but nothing happens. He throws another with his right fist but it proves once again useless. The three-headed gatekeeper gets closer and closer to Kiyo and he lets out a squeal while he runs the opposite direction as fast as he can. He obviously cannot outrun it and the dog gains on him rather quickly. It takes a chomp at him with it’s teeth and Kiyo dodges it by jumping over the side of the bridge. He falls all the way down toward the lave but before falling in, he stops mid-air and in a comedic fashion swims and strokes his way 30 feet back up to grab the stalactite hanging from the bottom of the bridge.)

Kiyo: (Relieved) Phew, I completely forgot I don’t have my abilities anymore. I’m not immune to getting burned like before. If I don’t wanna end up a fried sausage, I better be careful.

(Kiyo looks up to see a large head stretching over the side of the bridge glaring at him with a bright yellow eye. He slowly looks behind him to see a second head glaring at him the same way with drool falling from their mouths and steam emitting from their breath. One dog head takes a bite at Kiyo but Kiyo quickly throws himself into its mouth and onto the tongue. The dog closes its mouth and the two heads return to the top of the bridge. The dog aggressively growls and shakes its head; attempting to cause Kiyo to fall into its throat but Kiyo holds on tight for dear life onto the base of one of its razor sharp teeth. It opens its mouth and attempts to try and bite Kiyo but he’s able to continue holding on to the base of the tooth. Kiyo yells in pain as the drool from its mouth begins burning his skin. The dog continues to aggressively shake its head until Kiyo is launched far out into the distance over the lava pit. Kiyo yells as loud as he can with tears coming out of his eyes until he eventually smacks into a wall and slides down onto a small patch of ground untouched by lava. He looks around and pats himself all over his body making sure he’s still in one peace. He takes a relieving breath and looks in front of him to see the three-headed dog growling at him from the bridge about 80 feet away. Kiyo stands to his feet and smirks at the dog.)

Kiyo: (Chuckles) it was fun, boy, but I gotta run! Hopefully we don’t see each other again! (Waves)

(Meanwhile on the top of the cliff, the group of wondering souls watch as Kiyo looks around for somewhere to escape.)

Young woman soul: Oh he made it, how gracious! He’s a toughie!

Nerd soul: No! No! We are not letting him into our group! We can’t trust this guy! He’s in hell, or wherever this place is so he obviously isn’t a good person.

Tough guy: Hey, tough guy! We all did something bad! At least he can hold his own against that giant mutt! That’s more than any of us could do!

(The three-headed dog lets out a loud howl through the cave. The force is powerful enough to slightly push Kiyo back about 2 feet. Kiyo looks down and sees his foot almost slide into the pit of lava around him. The three-headed dog takes a single leap over the river of lava and Kiyo’s eyes nearly bulge out of his sockets at the sight of its large shadow expanding over him. The dog lands above Kiyo and causes the entire ground to shake. Black and dark green tentacles expand from its body and emit a smoke. Kiyo quickly jumps from beneath the dog and stands in front of it with only 4 feet of stable ground between him and the dog. Kiyo looks closely at the tentacles and they hiss at him.)

    Kiyo: (Sighs) Seriously, snakes too?!

(All of the small snakes open their mouths and spit venom at him. Kiyo is barely able to dodge them and as he does so, the left head of the dog tries chomping at him in mid air. Kiyo is able to barely use one of his feet to push himself up a bit and land on the dog’s head. The snakes all strike at Kiyo from the dog’s back but Kiyo is able to dodge their vicious bites. Two of them are able to bite him in the left leg and the right shoulder. Kiyo smacks them away and jumps away from the top of the dog. He hits a wall and as he falls down he sees a small opening beside him. He quickly rolls into the opening and nearly gets stuck. After about three nudges, he’s able to get unstuck and crawl deeper into to the hole. He looks back and sees a dog bit the outside of the cave’s entrance. With very little light peaking through, Kiyo is barely able to see the creature’s tongue attempting to get through the hole and grab him but the whole is too small. The dog backs off and Kiyo takes the opportunity to catch his breath. Before he could fully recover, a black snake comes casually slithering into the hole after Kiyo. Kiyo slightly panics and crawls into the cave further and the snake jolts at him at a high speed, Kiyo is able to catch it before it bite his face and uses his other hand to grab it by the neck. The snake opens its mouth and oozes some of its venom out onto Kiyo’s hands. The venom ends up being acidic and quickly begins dissolving on Kiyo’s hands. Kiyo lets out a large grunt and squeezes the snake’s neck harder. The snake begins to lightly gag a few times, then suddenly, out comes a second smaller snake from its mouth. The second snake dashes at Kiyo and Kiyo dodges it, casing the second snake to bite into the wall behind him. Kiyo balls his fist and bashes it over the head; causing the snake’s tooth to be ripped out. Kiyo quickly grabs the tooth and jams it into the top of the second snake’s mouth and pins it to a wall. Kiyo tosses the two snakes aside and crawls deeper inside. The snakes slither back toward the large dog and Kiyo continues on into the dark caves. The sound of his clothes rattling and dragging against the hard dirt is all that’s heard, followed by the sound of his heavy breathing. This goes on for quite some time until eventually Kiyo hits something hollow. He taps against it a few times, before deciding to kick it multiple times and break the wall down. Kiyo crawls through it and makes his way out into a large tunnel with torches lighting the pathways in both directions. Kiyo looks both ways and tries to listen out but does not hear anything coming from either direction. Continuing to listen, he begins hearing the sound of a male’s agonizing scream coming from the right path, followed by faint sounds of dripping water. Kiyo grabs a torch from off the wall and as he does so the flames all turn blue. Kiyo rushes down the tunnel as fast as he can while holding one torch high over his head. The flames begin changing from blue to green, then to purple. He gets to the end and reaches a sealed metal door as big as the tunnel itself. He tries looking for a handle but there isn’t any. He looks around and sees that the flames on walls on both sides are multicolored; seven flames on one side and seven on the other.)

Kiyo: Okay... what do we have here? There are 14 flames; 7 on each side and they all seem to be- (Gets dizzy and nearly passes out) Whoa- (Grounds himself after a short time) Awe man; that snake venom is getting into my system. The fact that I ran down this tunnel probably caused it to go through my system even faster. Ugh, good one, Kiyo, you idiot. (Creeps closer toward the flames) Okay, so I better do this quick; I’m dying and trapped in a cave... somehow. I’m already dead so what exactly is this venom doing to me? Killing a soul twice erases it from existence, right? So this venom could potentially erase me from the afterlife. Hmm... These flames all seem to be flashing rainbow colors. If I didn’t know better, I’d think that each flame is supposed to be solid in color.

(Kiyo raises the flame up to the torches on the wall and as he does so, they become solid colors, but only when he gets close to the flames with his torch.)

    Kiyo: Okay, we’re in business.

(Kiyo grabs the torch in front of him and tries to remove it but it is stuck.)

Kiyo: What? (Examines the holders) There are small locks in these torches holding them in place. In that case, there must be some way to unlock them. The one I’m holding wasn’t locked. Was it just this one, or is it just the 14 here near the metal door? There’s only one way to find out.

(Kiyo makes his way all the way down and eventually gets to where he started. He looks into the holder where he got his torch sees a switch at the bottom. He places his torch back in and the flames all turn orange once again. He looks over and sees that the locks have been released for all of the torches around.)

Kiyo: Okay... so there’s some puzzle or something going on here that I need to figure out. I don’t have much time because of this stupid poison. If it does slowly kill the spirit than a strong will should be able to fight it off and give me time. As long as my spirit is strong it can hold out. (Looks down the opposite direction and sighs) If I go that way, where would it lead me too? I can’t afford to waste any time; it might be nothing. But... maybe I should check it out anyway...?

(Kiyo paces himself going down the left path and the colors of the flames go from red, to orange, to yellow, then orange again once he gets to the end. He sees the same metal doors, except there is a skeleton wrapped in a ragged robe on the ground with torch in his hand. Kiyo kneels down to examine the skeleton then looks up at the door. The door seems the same all except for three holders surrounding the door. The one of the left is an orange flame, and the one on the right is a red flame. There is a holder on the top for another torch above the door. Kiyo grabs the flame from the skeleton and pries its hand off. Kiyo stands and looks up at the holder up top. He continues to stare at it and unbeknownst to him, the skeleton arises behind him to its feet. After finishing examining the door and its torches, Kiyo turns around and takes a step forward, crashing into the skeleton and causing it to shatter into pieces all over the ground.)

Skeleton: Oops... Ooh Darn it; not again. I have the worse luck scaring people (Sighs).

Kiyo: Hey, buddy, you uh... (Pulls the skeleton’s hand falls off the torch) need a hand...?

Skeleton: (Bursts out laughing hysterically then goes completely silent in an instant) Oh that’s funny, wish I saw that coming.

Kiyo: Yeah, without eyes I can imagine how difficult that must be.

Skeleton: (Bursts out laughing again then stops) Again, that’s funny. You’re on fire today, young lad. I’d show more enthusiasm but I’m in pieces at the moment.

Kiyo: Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll get yourself together soon.

Skeleton: (Laughs hysterically again for a few seconds then whispers) You’re fun.

Kiyo: Here, I’ll help put you together then maybe we can figure out the riddle to this strange cave together. (Kneels and gathers his bone pieces together) These flames seem to have some kind of message behind them and I’m not entirely sure what it is. The torch you’re holding, I’m sure you were tempting to place it into the slot above the door.

Skeleton: I was then sadly that snake’s poison caused my flesh to deteriorate. Being bridle as bone- (Quickly chuckles) makes it difficult to reach the top of that door. I couldn’t place it up there in time. I’ve been here several human decades it seems.

Kiyo: What?! So in that case, this snake’s venom melts away the flesh permanently. In that case, I’m not gonna die, but I’ll basically be a walking pile of bones forever.

    Skeleton: HEY!

    Kiyo: (Chuckles) Sorry.

Skeleton: No offense taken. If we’re going to get out of this situation we’ve gotta work together to figure this out.

Kiyo: (Finishes putting the skeleton together) Honestly, I think I have figured it out. (Aggressively coughs 4 times and spits out a wad of blood) Darn it; this slow acting poison ironically works quickly through the system. We better figure this ou-

(Kiyo looks up to see the skeleton gone and the only thing heard is the sound of a breeze blowing through the cave. Kiyo looks around in slight confusion but does not dwell on it for long. He reaches down and grabs the lit torch from the ground and holds on tight to it as he walks down the tunnel yet again, lightly coughing half the way down. Kiyo eventually makes it to the right end of the cave where the metal doors are and stands before it, attempting to figure out the code. Three holders suddenly appear around this door as well.)

Kiyo: Okay, so there are a total of six torch holders, three on this side and three on the other. How do I make sure they’re correct? So as I wonder down the halls, the torches actually change in color. Perhaps the torches only lock for the same colors, which would mean as I’m walking down the tunnel, I should be able to grab a purple, green, and blue flame from the wall. Purple and blue torches should go on the door here on the right side of this tunnel.

(Kiyo rushes back and forth, putting his theory into action. He eventually guesses the right combination and places the torches into the correct holders.)

Kiyo: Okay, so now all 7 flames are the correct colors on the wall; now what comes next? Uh... (Looks down the hall then at the door) I should wait for that skeleton guy, maybe he’s still trapped down here somewhere.

(Kiyo runs in the opposite direction but as he does, he hears a loud noise behind him. He stops and the large metal doors open up for him, leading onto a large round platform surrounding by a ring of lava extending 80 feet down.)

Kiyo: The door’s open; I could just go. (Coughs up more blood and nearly falls to the ground) Darn it; UGH, I’m not gonna last very long with this poison in me. I need to get help... (Sighs) I’m going back for that pile of bones; hopefully I find him. For all I know, no one out there is going to help me, but I may be the only person able to help that guy. Even if I just get him out of this maze, that’s enough.

(Kiyo runs full sprint down the tunnel and out of nowhere a rainbow-lit doorway appears in front of him, causing him to run through it and appear down the left side of the cave. Kiyo stops and the metal doors open a bit before getting stuck mid-motion. The doors begin creaking and tumble over. They hit the ground and the top corner of one of the doors falls into the rainbow-lit doorway, causing it to break off and disappear. Kiyo enters the small room where the doors were blocking and sees large collapsed boulders blocking the path.)

Kiyo: Okay...? I guess I go back then.

(Kiyo leaves through the doorway and appears on the other side of the tunnel. He looks down to see his Skeleton friend’s entire body crushed by the large piece of door that fell through, except for his intact skull facing away from him.)

Skeleton: Ah! Who’s there?! Friend, is that you?!

Kiyo: (Picks up his skull) It’s me, guy; I came back for you.

Skeleton: Oh goodie! Someone does care! I wish I
