About this ebook

Author Kim Norman (Crocodaddy) and illustrator Liza Woodruff have whipped up a rollicking, jolly, snow-filled adventure! In the land of the midnight sun, all the animals are having fun speeding down the hill on Caribous sled. But as they go faster and faster, Seal, Hare, Walrus, and the others all fall off…until just Caribous left, only and lonely. Now, a reindeer likes flying-but never alone, so…one through ten, all leap on again! An ideal picture book for reading-and singing along with-over and over.

Appropriate book for me since we just had our second snow of December a couple of days ago. Cute book for its winteriness. I liked the animals too.

The big draw here is that most of the text can be sung (with a little practice) to the tune of "There Were Ten in a Bed." The story's pretty basic with ten animals on one toboggan sledding down the hill and falling off the sled one by one. Wackiness ensues. Each animal has some sort of winter gear be it earmuffs, a sweater or even a helmet, but moose takes the cake with goggles and rainbow colored leg warmers. Liza Woodruff's get the plot across competently while adding fun details like the snowball that forms out of some of the fallen animals and races the sled to the bottom of the mountain. Water color, colored pencil and pastel all blend well together with lots of motion lines to indicate the speedy action.

Used for preschool outreach storytimes. For 3 yo February 2011 and 3-5yo at Sunshine Early Learning Center 11/16/11.

Similar to ten in a bed. A counting book with animals. It starts with ten on the sled and each time one gets off until there is none, and then they all get back on. Illustration were fun, great book for learning subtraction.
