    INTRODUCTION

I was introduced to the use of proclamations when I was a new Christian in college. I had a mentor who taught me to proclaim Ephesians 6:10-18. I did not fully understand the power of proclamations at the time, but it became a game changer in my life. I quickly realized that proclaiming the word of God built up my faith. I later found that the Bible said precisely that in Romans 10:17, So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the word of God. Proclaiming the word of God changed how I engaged in the spirit. It helped me to boldly take hold of the word of God, mix it with faith in my heart, and launch it forth to achieve the plans and purposes of God for my life. Prayer and proclamations positioned me to win in the battles of life.

    Why We Proclaim

Because we are kingdom people! We belong to the kingdom of God. The kingdom was a very important theme for Jesus. It had a prominent, explicit focus in His teachings. In the ESV translation, the kingdom is mentioned 126 times in the gospels alone, mostly in Jesus’s teachings. The kingdom is God’s way of doing things. It is the government and rule of God on the earth.

Jesus came to inaugurate a kingdom, not a democracy. Some of the first words out of His mouth when He began His ministry were, The kingdom of God has come (Matthew 4:17, Matthew 10:7, Mark 1:14-15, Luke 4:43, Luke 8:1, Luke 10:9). In the kingdom there is no lack, sickness, bondage, affliction, or limitation. We belong to the kingdom of God, and the laws of the kingdom operates in our lives and governs our affairs.

In a kingdom, kings have authority and their words carry tremendous power. In Revelation 5:10, the Bible says that God has made us kings and priests… and we shall reign on the earth. Kings rule and exercise authority through the issuance of edicts, decrees, and proclamations. Jesus said, the kingdom of God is within you (Luke 17:21). He also taught us to pray, Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. When we make proclamations, we act as kings to call forth and establish the rule, authority, and government of God in the earth.

    CHAPTER 1

    THE POWER OF WORDS

Words are primarily containers of power. We are introduced to the amazing power of words in the first chapter of the Bible. Genesis chapter 1 is repeatedly punctuated by two sets of three words, And God said and, And God called. And everything that God said or called came into physical manifestation, every single time! By the end of that chapter, the entire universe had been created, by the power of the spoken word. That is how powerful words are! We live in a word created, word directed, and word dominated world. Simply stated, our world was created by words and responds to words. This is why Jesus spoke to a fig tree, and directed us to speak to mountains. All of creation recognizes and responds to the word of the living God!

We think in words. When we speak, our words produce images in the minds of all who hear them. When you say the word dog, that paints a picture in our minds of the four legged creature we call man’s best friend. The more targeted your words are, the more it clarifies and identifies what type of dog - the color, shape, condition, and so on. Someone can draw, sculpture or create that specific dog from your description. They can pick that dog out from a room full of dogs, simply based on your words. That is the power of words, to bring into existence, first in the imagination, and then in the physical realm, what is spoken. When we make proclamations, we take hold in the spirit of a specific, identified, territory, thing, person or provision, and compel them to respond to us in the same way that the earth responded to God in Genesis 1. In other words, a proclamation is an authoritative prayer that takes hold of what God has provided through grace, and brings it into physical manifestation. Proclamations make a demand on God’s provision.

Just as natural hands touch the physical body, words are the invisible hands that reach into the unseen realm and touch the soul and spirit. In John 6:63, Jesus said, The words I speak to you are spirit and life.

    Hebrews 4:12 states:

The word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.

Words reach into the spirit realm and create the visible out of the invisible. Hebrews 11:3 confirms this truth. It states, The entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen. Romans 4:17 explains how God does this. He calls the things that are not, as though they are, and they become. To illustrate, when God wanted to make Abraham a father, He changed his name, and began to call him
