    Dedication

This book is dedicated to my incredible family whom I love with all my heart.

My husband Terry, our three wonderful children and our eight fantastic grandchildren.

Also my deceased parents who taught me many of the principles used in this book.

The most important of which, they taught me how to LOVE unselfishly and unconditionally.

    Reversing the Ageing Process

    Preface

The photograph on the cover page was taken last year when I was 75 years old. I insisted there was to be no photoshopping or editing. On a visit to a dermatologist a couple of years ago for a mole on my arm that had changed, he proceeded to pull back my hair, quite forcefully. When I asked what he was doing, as the mole is on my arm, he apologised and said he was looking for scars, as he thought I had had a facelift and could see that I have not. Nor have I ever had Botox. I have simply practised what I preach.

This book will also give answers and hope to those who may be suffering from one of the many diseases that plague mankind today and also intended to help you from ever manifesting these diseases in future years.

    About the Author

I was born in England in 1945, the last year of World War II. I lived in a small village where everyone knew everyone. These were tough times after the war. I remember vividly the food ration books and my elder sister and me cycling many kilometres in horrendous weather to get the meat and food rations from Scarr’s Butchery and the Cooperative, before we cycled to school.

We had a huge plot of land. My mother had green fingers and everything she planted grew.

My father had built greenhouses and to this day I can still smell the amazingly delicious fragrance of her home-grown tomatoes and cucumbers.

My elder sister and I had many chores in the garden; our favourite was to ‘tickle’ the tomatoes with a homemade ‘tickle stick’ to pollinate them. This would normally be done by insects but in the freezing English winter they were scarce, and the doors could not be left open or the heat would escape.

My father was very inventive and had installed a homemade heating system. The snow never settled long on the greenhouse. It was always warm in there, and I loved the smell and warmth.

In the warmer months I really hated having to pick the vegetables and salads we ate daily. The worms were so plentiful and seemed to congregate on my spade as I dug them out, and occasionally I would slice through one. The memory is so vivid to this day, and I still hate to see a wriggly worm. My mother consoled me by saying don’t worry they will grow back the missing bits. This eased my conscience but did little to erase the memory.

My mother also kept chickens for eggs and occasionally a chicken would need to be slaughtered; she felt so sorry for it she would catch and bag it, carrying it to the local farmer to do the dastardly deed with its little head sticking out of the top of the sack, all the while stroking its head.

Because of food shortages most people grew their own vegetables and fruit and kept some form of livestock. Those that had no gardens were given a portion of land to do this; they were called allotments. I know part of the local park was allocated for this purpose. People would ride their bicycles to work in their allotments. We were fortunate to have our own land.

We ate fresh free-range eggs, berries and vegetables every day, and lovely apples from the three apple trees Mum and Dad had lovingly planted and cared for, and which they named Faith, Hope and Charity.

Of course, the term organic was unknown to us.

We drank fresh raw farm milk from the local farm close by. We were rarely sick. I don’t actually remember ever going to a doctor except once for stitching when I fell off my bicycle.

My father was a man born before his time. I mentioned earlier that he was inventive.

He installed a solar heating panel in the roof of our house which supplied all our hot water, including the central heating system. This was at a time when most people were using only coal fires for heating. It is incredible that this was in the North of England with little sun, and yet even in winter it supplied our whole home with copious amounts of hot water and heated the strange-looking radiators. Perhaps Dad had made those too, I don’t know.

One has to ask the question. Why have solar panels not been made compulsory in every home? Imagine the saving on electricity, and the pollution that could have been avoided throughout the world over these many decades.

He also was very much into health. We had to line up every day for our dose of thick, liquid vitamin C, which was subsidised by the government, and cod liver oil. The taste of the fish oil was so bad that Mum stood at the end of the row of girls to reward us with an enormous tablespoonful of malt. It was sweet and delicious; we would take a dollop to take the nasty fish oil taste away then lick the spoon like a lollipop to make it last.

We knew nothing about the benefits of Omega 3 as brain food and the multi-faceted benefits of vitamin C.

    My father did.

He also knew about the importance of exercise. Gyms and saunas were unheard of in our part of the world, everyone had enough exercise just living their daily lives. Dad must have read about them somewhere because he made his own sauna and invented a slimming machine.

I am smiling as I write this.

The sauna was no more than a huge wooden box with a hole in the lid on the top for your head and a hole in the bottom, much like a commode on which you sat. The box was on a platform and underneath there was a huge pot of water which was boiled and the steam filtered through into the box.

Unfortunately, one day while my father was taking a sauna the lid stuck, and despite all his efforts, he couldn’t lift it off. He cooked his bottom raw. He subsequently modified his system.

My father’s improvisation was sometimes bordering on lunacy. Mum was complaining that every time she switched on the electric stove the electricity tripped. Dad then used a six-inch nail in the fuse box because he didn’t have any fuse wire.

I can laugh now because the scene was surreal and like something from a cartoon. We three girls were sitting at the kitchen table when suddenly Mum took off - seemingly airborne - across the kitchen and was pinned against the wall. It had happened so quickly we just sat fixated at the scene. She had touched the electric stove which had become live. This became the family joke. Bernard Muldoon, she said, you will be the death of me. Those words proved to be prophetic, Mum died of a broken heart. After fifty years of marriage, when Dad died, she couldn’t cope and went downhill from that day. They are together now as they always should be.

Dad’s slimming machine brought much laughter to us children. He used an old car inner tube, which was cut open and attached to a standing contraption. The rubber was placed around the stomach or bottom, and an old electric motor set the whole thing vibrating.

We girls always ran to watch when family members tried out Dad’s invention. To this day I can see the fat on their bottoms being vibrated to a point of hysteria. The hilarity was compounded when they tried to talk and say how good it felt, especially the ones with false teeth. The rattling was audible. We laughed till we cried.

My Dad was a character and I adored him. The day he electrocuted the worms was beyond belief if I had not seen it with my own eyes.

Our garden was beautiful and was their pride and joy. They once won a prestigious garden competition. It was always full of flowers all planted so that it was full of colourful blooms and shrubs throughout the year.

The lawn was pristine and cut in stripes to emphasise its beauty.

The worms were making it look messy, depositing little piles of dirt on the surface. One day, Dad called us to watch. He pressed a button and out of the ground shot hundreds of electrocuted worms. It was awesome.

Dad collected them and they were put in a box and were used as food for the fish in his pond, and for the many visiting wild birds which they fed daily.

He was, I suppose, an original mad Irishman. I learnt so much from him, though at that time I didn’t know it.

He was always reading, researching, questioning, and experimenting; how he would have loved the books available today and the internet. Our old set of Encyclopaedia Britannica was very well used. He was always reading anything he could lay his hands on, and on so many different subjects.

He subscribed to relevant magazines to increase his knowledge.

He was a mechanic and once built and sold a car which he had made from the good parts of cars which had been in accidents. He spent a lot of time in the junkyards. He took our own car apart and put it back together, just to see if he could do it.

He would sit on our bed at night and tell us we were so beautiful we could be anything we ever wanted to be, we just had to believe in ourselves. He told us to travel and see the world. He also gave us a strong belief in God and the importance of a moral, caring lifestyle.

My mum would visit the old pensioners round about and take them food and produce she had grown.

The reason I relate all this is because only now can I see how much they influenced my life. Only now can I appreciate them fully, only now when I have wisdom with hindsight.

Without us realising it, they taught us three girls the love of healthy eating, the necessity of supplementation, the importance of exercise, to believe anything is possible if you have faith, the joy of giving, and most importantly; They taught us how to love.

My greatest joy is to help motivate people to be healthy, fit, and also to feel great about themselves and to love the person they are.

My books, motivational talks, radio broadcasts, seminars and workshops have all been to this end.

I am a fit, healthy and happy woman of seventy-six, and living with my husband of fifty-six years. We have been blessed with three children, and eight beautiful grandchildren.

I am currently running my own Pilates studio and am continually busy with my range of Youthing 100% natural handmade facial creams, serum and health products.

I have practised Youthing and proved its worth, I cannot honestly remember the last time I was sick and now I would like to share with you how to live a healthy, stress-free, happy and successful life.

    SUCCESS

Success can never be measured in monetary terms alone. What the world may deem a successful person is perhaps a billionaire or movie star, but this must be taken in context with the whole spectrum of their lives.

What use are billions of dollars in the bank, or stardom and adoring fans, if your family life is in shreds or your body is not healthy? Many so-called ‘stars’ end up taking drugs, or become alcoholics, or even worse, commit suicide. I am sure many names will come into your mind as you read this. Many famous people considered to be successful are actually failures in life.

I hope this book will give you the tools and the strategies that can help you achieve your goals and make a complete transformation in your health and all aspects of your life.

I want to take you beyond just motivation; I want to share with you the fundamentals of using the power already within you and getting yourself to take action to produce results. I pray this book is the beginning of a great journey to the best quality of life you have ever had.

Welcome to the first step in ‘Youthing’. How to Look Younger, Stay Healthier, Live Longer.

Just as faithfulness is the key to the best relationship, happiness and contentment are the keys to true wealth. Health and longevity are gifts we can give to ourselves.

    Part One

Youthing Explained and How it Applies to You

The aim of the book is NEVER to give advice. On the contrary, I hope only to make you sufficiently curious to do your own research in areas that may be of concern to you, then for you to make an informed decision from your own research.

This book is also different, just as the whole concept of Youthing is different. You will see there is no bibliography at the back of the book; instead, direct quotes are acknowledged and in italics as you read, so it is easier for you to check them out.

This is done purposefully. There will be ten different opinions on any topic you care to mention. I actually read a medical report recently written by a doctor stating vitamin C was dangerous? I rest my case.

I do not want to prove myself right, I don’t need to; I know how many lives have changed radically for the better from the knowledge they have gained from my seminars, talks, and radio interviews. This book is a culmination of these, plus a whole lot more. Many have seen health restored in every aspect of life: physically, mentally, and spiritually.

I believe in what I am doing and in every word I have written; it is up to you, the reader, to decide whether you want to stop ageing and start Youthing.

    YOUTHING EXPLAINED

I would like to make this clear from the start: Youthing does not start at 40, 50, 60, or 70 chronological years. In fact, Youthing starts from birth. From the first breath a baby takes and the first taste of colostrum from its mother’s breast; from childhood to adulthood, we are either influencing or being influenced.

It is a well-known fact that orphan babies who are not cuddled, touched and encouraged, do not flourish anywhere near as well as those who are. Their little lives have already been influenced by this lack of tactile nurturing. Using the principles in this book on your children will give them a solid foundation to be healthy in body, soul and spirit.

This book is for everyone from young mothers and fathers influencing their babies and children to any and all ages.

Youthing is not a concept; Youthing is a lifestyle, it is a way of living. Youthing touches every aspect of our lives - body, soul and spirit.

This lifestyle manifests in our physical bodies to a degree that is visual, hence the name. You will look younger, stay healthier and live longer.

You are probably wondering, what exactly is Youthing? It is a neologism, I made it up. Youthing is simply the opposite of ageing.

One day I hope it will be an entry in the New Oxford Dictionary. It will read something like this:

Youthing - noun - pertaining to an attitude of staying mentally young and vital, regardless of chronological age

youthing - verb - the actions or practise of Youthing

youthing people - adj. - people who practise the lifestyle of Youthing.

    antomym - ageing

In fact, I hope ‘Youthing’ will become a buzz word used as commonly as its antonym, ‘ageing’.

I believe we are socially conditioned to believe that the number of years we live constitutes ageing.

Ageing is far more complex. There are many types of ageing. For example:

•You have a physical age: how fit and supple are you compared to others of similar age?

•You have a mental age: what is your mental attitude towards ageing, do you behave in a certain way because you are socially conditioned to behave that way?

•You have a vitality age: do you wake up full of energy, raring to go?

•Finally, you have a chronological age: the number of years since your birth.

Chronological age is necessary to keep records. We need to fill out forms, have statistics, etc., and it would be a very confused world without it. This is the ageing we all know about and accept. Unfortunately, this ageing is synonymous with most things negative.

Many scientists now recognise that chronological age is irrelevant.

They believe for instance that a ninety-year-old man can have the mental and vitality age of a nineteen-year-old and can be disease free and live a healthy, active life. This comes as no surprise to me. I know seventy-year-old women who have more energy, vitality and joie de vivre than some seventeen-year-olds.

These are some amazing statistics that may surprise you.

The world’s greatest achievers and outstanding persons reveal the following statistics:

•35% were between 60 and 70 years old

•23% were between 70 and 80 years old

    •8% were over eighty

To sum up this up, over 66% of the world’s most outstanding persons and greatest achievers were over sixty. Perhaps the old adage ‘Life begins at forty’ should be changed to ‘Life begins at sixty’.

Why should you act your chronological age, if mentally and physically you are 25 years younger?

I believe how we age depends on certain very important factors:

•What we think and how we speak

•What we put into our mouths

•Taking responsibility for our own health

•Having a healthy pH, which is the foundation of disease prevention, including cancer

•How much we exercise our bodies

The following chapters will teach you how to make changes in each category, and to stop ageing and start Youthing.

So, is it possible to slow down the inevitable? Can we really have some say in senescence? (pronounced sun-ne-sun[t]s) This is just a fancy word, meaning the organic process of growing older and showing the effects of increasing age.

I believe we can. I have practised Youthing and you can be the judge of whether or not it has worked for me.

    AS A MAN THINKS

As a man thinks in his heart so is he. Proverbs 23:7 (NIV)

You may be questioning this. Is it really that important what I think about? What is the correlation of who I am and what I think about? How can I become what I think?

    ‘Belief creates biology’

    - Norman Cousins

The mind influences every cell in the body. Stress can wreak havoc with our immune system, raise the risk of heart failure, and cancer.

Happiness, joy and fulfilment will keep you healthy and extend your life. Human ageing can speed up, slow down, even
