The Undying Faith Book 1. A Guide to a Life of Success and Happiness - Hebert McQuinn
Introduction
The author is the first born child of two teachers and was orphaned while still an infant in that his mother passed away from an illness when he was three months old and his father fled his native country into exile for political reasons when he was one year old.
He was brought up by one of his paternal uncles who tried his utmost, under trying circumstances to raise him up to be a good man. In more ways than one he succeeded in his quest as will be plainly evident from the contents of this book. He has not however, been the kind of person you may picture him to be from interacting with his writings. He has come a long way from the time he was a young man growing up in his uncle’s house.
He had a tough childhood in a community that subscribed to the notion that it takes a village to raise a child. The problem with that notion is it presumes that every resident of that village is a well-meaning person who has the best interests of that child at heart, and that is how it can be misleading because it takes pastors, teachers, nurses , murderers, armed robbers and rapists to make up a village. In his own words he gives us a sneak peek into his roller coaster of a life thus:" Throughout primary school I attended school barefooted and with no lunch box or anything to eat. I was a target of the neighborhood bullies who took great delight in occasionally beating the daylights out of me because I was one of the frailest boys in the hood, and I did not have an older brother, I was for these reasons an easy target for them. In fighting me they were always assured of an easy walk over. I was even sodomised by an adult male member of that community when I was about six years old.
I had to find part time employment in my second year in high school or I would have continued to attend school barefoot and hungry. However it was after school, in the third year of my adult, working life that I found myself in an even more hostile environment, where I was targeted by a large section of the community in which I resided because my circumstance was different from everyone else’s in that community. A neighbor of mine even tried to get me killed.
It was during this latter chaotic period in my life that I was first hospitalized with depression, which was hardly surprising for one who has had to deal with so much hardship so early in life. That signified the beginning of a nightmarish life that lasted well into my late twenties. At which point I began to turn the tide on depression. I enrolled at a part time study college and obtained a diploma in Road Traffic Management. And I had during that same period obtained my driving license.
I was to later find employment and go to a Traffic college to get the basic traffic diploma which was a prerequisite for appointment as a traffic officer as well as for appointment as a peace officer. I went on to get involved in the trade union movement and assumed leadership positions there as a respected champion of the working class. While busy in the movement I again studied part time and obtained a Law degree.
I’m mentioning the latter events in my life post-depression, to illustrate just how much is possible when you believe, and for no other reason. That it was possible for me to live a full and productive, not to mention enjoyable life after suffering depression. These achievements are no mean feats for someone who has had to come in from the cold, from the brink of certain defeat to make something of his life. There are many more of such feats that I have achieved since that tragic period in my life but they will be the subject of my autobiography when the time comes for me to pen it.
I attribute all of my triumphs and victories, my moments of pleasure post, and in spite of depression to my faith in God and my belief in myself. I have not always understood my spirituality a hundred percent but then when you believe, you don’t need swords and spears to bring down your Goliaths, only a sling and a stone. Please do enjoy the first book in the series. "
Chapter 1
As within, so without
The objective realities of a human life are nothing but a reflection of what is happening in the world within the individual human being. The objective realities are only the effects of the cause which consists of his inner conversations, what he says to himself about himself, his dominant thoughts, what he is convinced is true about
