Anxiety - Christopher Páez
Introduction
Today, anxiety consumes many people; it is part of the frenzy of commitments, jobs, debts and this fast-paced lifestyle that most people have. This represents a difficult problem to face: regaining peace, tranquility and inner harmony.
How do you achieve that goal if there are so many buts
?
The first step is to recognize the problem, we always talk about anxiety, but we never stop to delve deeper into the subject, to know the background of the evil and how it impacts both us and those around us. It influences our health, well-being, economy and relationship with others.
Knowing the impact of the problem - what is hidden behind the curtain of anxiety - is the first step to finding the solution. Then you should follow the recommendations of the experts by making the pertinent modifications in your life and adopting new habits to get control over anxiety.
The fact that you are reading this book is a great first step and I congratulate you on it.
I understand your situation: I went through the same thing. For years I was accumulating anxiety that began with stress. I was running from one place to another, complying with everyone, assuming more responsibilities than I could bear, staying up late, never resting, not even when I was sick. Soon, that momentary stress transformed into anxiety.
I got anxious about the client who asked me about my work, about the boss who observed me, and even about my partner when they asked me anything. My body seemed to need the anxiety: if I did not feel it, it seemed that something was missing.
Sounds masochistic right? Well, that's right! Ironically, we try so hard to do a wide variety of things that we end up affecting our environment, life and the world in general to the point of making every dawn unbearable.
One day ... I just exploded. I couldn’t do it anymore. I broke down to the point of falling into a depression that led me to the hospital, believing that I had a heart attack because my chest hurt and I seemed to be short of breath. It had been a panic attack, a product of so much anxiety and accumulated stress.
I knew I had to change.
And I did it.
It was an arduous process. I had to unlearn many things, then learn new ones, change habits, and modify several aspects in my life. Although at first, I felt that I was winning in life, that it was unthinkable to change anything, I soon discovered that it has been one of the smartest transformations I've ever done, and I'm pleased with the results.
If you dare to make changes, to start following the guidelines to leave stress behind, I promise you that you will end up as whole as I am now.
Do not allow anxiety to remain at the helm of your life. This condition is not a requirement for the world we live in today; on the
