ACK (American Kennel Club) recognizes four color variations: blue and rust, black and rust, red and rust and fawn and rust. However white Dobermans are not recognized by the AKC. Their ‘unusual’ coloring is due to a genetic variation known as oculocutaneous. They are called Albino Dobermans and typically have light eyes, white or cream-colored coats and pink noses, lips, and paw pads. Breeders are selling albino Dobies for an exceedingly high price. However due to inbreeding, they frequently have temperament issues, such as extreme fear of humans and aggressiveness. Lastly they are prone to health problems, and due to their pale coats, they have an increased risk of developing melanoma.

Dobermans has grown in popularity around 1980 after it was officially recognized as a breed by the American Kennel Club. Nowadays the Doberman is less tough and more refined, but it’s just as impressive and makes for an equally good companion and guard dog.
