Back in the 1800s as railroads and roads were built, Rottweilers were not needed. During this industrialization fortunately Rottweiler lovers worked to keep Rottweilers around. By the 1900s a new task for this working dog was established which was serving as military and police dogs.

While the number of Rottweilers have decreased somewhat, there was a time not so long ago when Rottweilers were one of the most popular breeds of dogs in the world. In the 1990s, Rottweilers were one of the most desired breeds in the United States. In fact, purebred Rottweilers that were registered were more than 100,000 in the United States alone. Sadly the numbers of Rottweilers would soon decrease because of bad reputation breeders. As a result this dog breed paid the price for the lack of responsibility in humans. To a certain degree, this problem is still plaguing this particular breed.

As with German shepherds before them and now, they gained a reputation that they never should have had in the first place.

Often, sick or diseased puppies are sold to unsuspecting buyers who later regret their purchase when the puppy becomes seriously ill soon after arriving in its new home. You should also know that many pet stores source their puppies from puppy mills.
