#3 Larry Bridges, the owner of Benton Welding, told the police that Doug had not been home for a week. He didn’t think much of it at first, but the next weekend passed and he didn’t see Doug come home, which was unusual.

#4 The sheriff made arrangements with Larry Bridges to take care of the remaining birds until Doug could be located. Lutz did not inform Bridges that he was going to call someone to do a wellness check on the inside of the house.

Sheriff Lutz went to visit Larry Bridges, who had called the police about a missing neighbor. Larry explained that it was the neighbor’s exotic birds that were dead.

Larry Bridges, the owner of Benton Welding, told the police that Doug had not been home for a week. He didn’t think much of it at first, but the next weekend passed and he didn’t see Doug come home, which was unusual.

The sheriff made arrangements with Larry Bridges to take care of the remaining birds until Doug could be located. Lutz did not inform Bridges that he was going to call someone to do a wellness check on the inside of the house.

The sheriff returned to the MCSD. He had been looking for Doug’s girlfriend, Tracy Fortson, a deputy, but she no longer worked there. He reached out to her and asked her to contact him if Doug showed up.

Doug and Tracy met in September 1997. Not at all attracted to him, if you ask Tracy, Doug was not the type of man she ever envisioned herself being with. Something made Tracy lean over the counter to look down at Doug’s hand, which was positioned over his crotch.

Tracy Fortson, one of Doug’s neighbors, told the sheriff that Doug had gone missing. She gave him the number for Jeff Bennett, one of Doug’s friends, who would know where Doug was.

Tracy had met Doug Benton in 1997 at a tanning salon. She didn’t want to get involved with someone who was all about self and was divorced, with a small child. She decided not to go out with him.
