Elizabeth, the oldest of the Pena children, was a good student until she turned fourteen. She began hanging out with a bad crowd, and her father worried about her becoming bored with life.

Elizabeth’s parents were constantly arguing with her about her rebellious behavior. She would run away from home twice, and when she was kicked out of St. Pius X Catholic private school, she was devastated. But she began to turn her life around when she befriended a positive young girl named Jennifer Ertman.

Raul was a 17-year-old middle-school dropout who spent his time playing video games at the local convenience store. He was the third child, behind twin sisters, Laura and Elizabeth, who were born one year earlier to his parents. Raul was a polite and obedient boy who usually came to church every Sunday.
