Connor Whiteley

Hello, I'm Connor Whiteley, I am an 18-year-old who loves to write creatively, and I wrote my Brownsea trilogy when I was 14 years old after I went to Brownsea Island on a scout camp. At the camp, I started to think about how all the broken tiles and pottery got there and somehow a trilogy got created. Moreover, I love writing fantasy and sci-fi novels because you’re only limited by your imagination. In addition, I'm was an Explorer Scout and I love camping, sailing and other outdoor activities as well as cooking.Furthermore, I do quite a bit of charity work as well. For example: in early 2018 I was a part of a youth panel which was involved in creating a report with research to try and get government funding for organised youth groups and through this panel. I was invited to Prince Charles’ 70th birthday party and how some of us got in the royal photograph. Finally, I am going to university and I hope to get my doctorate in clinical psychology in a few years.

Cato Universe Fantasy Short Story Collection - Connor Whiteley

    THE REMARKABLE WAY SHE DIED

On the day she died, Catherion raised into the heavens and damned a race.

Feeling the hard brown rocky ground under her feet, Catherion knelt down pressing the hard rocks into her feet, knees and hands. She hated the pain that pulsed up her body and sliced into her flesh, but she had to do it.

Looking around her quickly, she really didn’t want to be seen but all she saw was the clear blue sky with bright red dragons flying high and the boiling hot sun beaming down on her. This was going to be a mission and a half.

As Catherion lowered her glaze she rolled her eyes at the tall sharp razor edges of the rocks forming a perfect ring around her, she much preferred the lustrous bright green forest beyond the rocky crater but it had to be done.

Looking at all the lumps and bumps in the crater Catherion hoped the enemy didn’t have too many visitors. Then she cocked her head and realised it wouldn’t have mattered even if they had.

Breathing in the hot dry air of the crater that was probably filled with the toxic dust and mould and more horrors that Catherion really didn’t want to think about. Catherion looked forward and a little smile formed on her smooth youthful face.

A small pitch black cave laid straight ahead in a perfect circle that wouldn’t be hard to crawl through. The feeling of dread filled her as she remembered all the horrors she had seen these witches commit as part of their witch cult.

It still made Catherion want to see them.

The sounds of dragons flying in the distance and the singing of birds filled the air. Yet Catherion was still nervous.

For ages she had wanted to see the witches and see what their cult was about but now she was here, she wasn’t sure. Her parents had always tried to scare her and her brother with the so-called torturous tales of the witch cults. Catherion always thought they were made up.

Catherion’s eyes turned wet as she remembered the crackling magic of the witches that stormed into her village and sacrificed her family to their cult.

    Abominations.

Catherion nodded as she remembered what others had called the witches and they were right, these witches were Abominations that were definitely not made by the Gods and Goddesses.

As she dusted off and straightened her long brown tunic and tried to ignore all the holes in it, Catherion made sure her short brown hair was tied up tightly and she decided to make her move.

    A rock fell nearby.

Catherion stopped and looked around but there was no one in the crater. She couldn’t even see the rock that had fallen, the crater was just as it was before, full of bumps and lumps with sharp dagger like edges that she was shocked she survived climbing down.

Another rock fell behind her down the cave entrance.

    Catherion turned around. She jumped.

There was a woman smiling at her. Her skin deadly pale covered in millions of tattoos and slices and scars. The woman’s eyes were narrow and black, like an abyss.

Catherion wanted to run but she couldn’t. She tried to tell her legs to move but they weren’t moving.

She looked at the woman and the woman flicked her hand.

Throwing Catherion against the rocks. Whacking her head into them.

    ***

Slowly opening her eyes, Catherion looked around and her eyes flickered as they readjusted to the dim cave chamber she was in. Catherion wasn’t a fan of the shiny black rocks that made a perfectly smooth wall and ceiling around her.

She tried to turn her head more to see what was around her but she couldn’t. Catherion didn’t know why.

She could feel something cold and heavy against the backs of her legs and her body pressed into it. It was only now Catherion realised she was lying down on something hard and raised, probably a rock altar perhaps.

    Catherion’s head
