    Introduction: What is a Headache?

    A headache is something that everyone has experienced. Pain may manifest itself in a variety of ways. For instance, your head being locked in a vice; an irate blacksmith pounding on the interior of your skull; or just the feeling that your head is going to burst due to the pressure developing inside of it. You clench your teeth, look for a dark place, and wonder why your head hurts so much.

    Although it may seem that your brain is swelling or that your skull is beating, neither the brain nor the skull can feel pain. So, what portion of your mind is bothering you? When nerve endings in any of these locations are stimulated, the brain receives a pain signal, and you get a headache.
