How often have you sought out financial advice only to find an endless library of resources that seem to apply only to couples or a family? How often have you thought, That’s awesome, but it’s just me and my bank account. Where’s the financial advice for solo income earners?

We live in a society where there's no shortage of financial advice -- make no mistake about it. You can always find budget advice everywhere. Sadly, this budgetary and financial advice is almost always targeted to a dishearteningly narrow audience -- so much so that you might start to think our entire society is only made up of these kinds of people!

If you're living alone or you are a solo income earner, this reality can feel a little alienating. Important questions like how much you need to save for life and whether or not you get any tax breaks often go unanswered, and finding the resources to answer them can be pretty difficult.

I’m a solo earner, and I know I’m not alone. A report by Statistics Canada found that the number of Canadians living alone has ‘more than doubled in the past 35 years’ -- making single-person households the most common type.
