About this ebook

Their feet made low crunching sounds on the dry leaves as they walked steadily across the park. The man's hand was around his wife, eyes dashing around for any movement, ready to protect her. He skimmed his fingers over the pouch hanging by his side and felt the weight of the necklace. He relaxed visibly and smiled at his wife when she looked up at him.
"We'll be okay, right?" She asked in a small scared voice. "They can't get it right?"
"We'll be fine". He faked a smile nodding even though he knew he couldn't promise that.
Rapid footsteps moved on the dry leaves to their left and they both turned with one hand on the gun in his back pocket and the other resting protectively on the pouch. Another moved to their right and they turned in that direction. A set of heavy footstep approached them and they faced forward, hearts slamming against their chests.
A short middle aged man flanked by two taller men appeared from behind a tree, his hands pocketed. He walked towards the couple slowly, a smirk on his lips.
"Long time mate" he addressed the man after sending the woman a wave.
"What do you want, Roberto?" The man growled, already getting irritated by the other men.
Roberto's brows furrowed into a small frown and he placed his palm on his chest, pretending to be pained. "Come on, Charles. I'm just here to talk and probably reach an agreement with you".
Charles shook his head as he pushed his wife gently behind him. "My family does not reach agreements with the likes of you, Roberto. And we're never going to give out our heirloom for money. So just leave".
Roberto leered at them. "You leave me no choice then. I didn't really want it to end like this. Now you'll just leave an orphan behind. "He snapped his fingers and suddenly, they were surrounded by huge men.
One of the men made to drag the woman and Charles leapt at him pulling out his gun. “Stay away from her". He snarled shooting at the ground between them. Another man grabbed him from behind and swatted his right hand that held the gun, sending the gun spiraling out of his grip. He was forced onto his knees and his pouch was taken away from him as he struggled within the iron-like grips of the men.
He watched in horror as the woman was pushed down onto her face and screamed when Roberto placed his shoe clad feet on her hair, pressing her face harder onto the ground.
He looked up at Roberto in pure hatred just as he struggled harder with the men. "Let me go". He growled but the men didn't even budge. The man with the pouch handed it to Roberto and the latter opened it slowly and brought out a long gold chain with a single diamond pendant in the middle.
He held it up and watched it glisten in the sun with a smile on his face. He brought out his own gun and pointed it at the woman below him. Charles shook his head at him and struggled harder. He wriggled free from the men and quickly sprang up towards Roberto's gun.
Roberto pointed the gun at him on reflex and pulled the trigger twice. Charles stopped charging towards him for a second and he watched Charles' eyes widen slightly before his body dropped to the ground with a thud. The woman groaned and he quickly did the same to her and she stopped moving.
Roberto threw the gun down and held up the necklace again.
"Did you bring the hammer?" He asked his main man. The latter handed a hammer to him and he stooped low and placed the pendant of the necklace on a pavement. He lifted the hammer and brought it crashing down on the necklace, his heart crashed when the diamond broke into pieces."Shit, darn it." He sprang up and threw the hammer down angrily.
"This god-damned necklace is fake. Get the real one right now." He screamed. "It has to be in their house. Find that necklace now!"
