A long time ago frogs are not green. No, they are blue – a bright blue. Naturally, they are strange looking to be sure, but since one and all have never seen green frogs, one and all are not bent out of shape by the blue ones.
There is one frog, however, who is not blue except in the way he feels about not being blue. He is orange, and this makes him feel very blue indeed. Now frogs, being the silly things they are, tend to want all frogs to look the same. The orange frog, not looking at all like the other frogs, causes much discussion around and about the pond, and it is the common opinion of all the citizens of that place that the orange frog is a very ugly character.
When he is a young tadpole, most of the other tads will not play with him and those who do are soon taught by their mammas that one smack on the kiester speaks more than a thousand words. But things are not better when he is grown. Indeed, they become worse, for characters who are very different from all the other characters attract all sorts of nasty attention.
To be different is to be indecent
is a well known belief among humans who, if not wise, are known to be good at handling heavy thoughts, like a tonne and a half of pig iron. But it is known to all that frogs are not as clear eyed as are humans.
