Chapter Two

The small message
I got a message,
Ely said in a loud voice.
Let me see it. Oh! ... good! I will make a copy for Leo.
Patrick gave Leo a copy of the message.
OK. The clock started ticking. Ely, we have to decrypt it. Could you work on it?
-.—..- -. -.. .... .—.
Yes. It's a small message. But we have to know which language are used for this message.
Correct. This is our purpose now. Leo and Ely will work on this. Wal, I need you for the next shift. Take your break now.
No problem. Do your best, MEN. Bye,
Wallace departed from the location dissatisfied.
After a few tries, Leo said, I think it's a mixed message! They may be using more than one language at the same time. Or even a local accent.
No need to worry, Leo. We'll discover what they're trying to hide,
Patrick said.
Many tries did not help Ely to get any good information. She began to struggle to be the first one to break this small message. Hour after hour passed without any progress. Their stress levels became evident. Patrick put down what he was holding and turned to face Ely and Leo. Guys, can I know what you got? Leo, tell me what you have.
Nothing good! I tried to decrypt it using the German language, but what I got is a mess! Unreadable message. Ooaaah.... God! Not again!
They know... we listen to them. Keep trying. Did you get anything, Ely?
"No! Nothing makes sense to me! I tried Dutch, Deutsch, and Polish. I can't seem to find any useful information! They may utilize two separate alphabets to make the message more secure. I'm not certain... However, this message is... odd!
Perhaps you're right. But why is it odd? What did you see that we did not?
Patrick asked Ely.
If we look back to past circumstances and their situation now, it’s important for them to send a couple of lines or a paragraph to the other side every couple of hours. Not a message with a single line!!
Oh! I got your point! You think because of the last battles they lose they will be more active to send every detail to the other side... or other generals. Maybe you're unaware of the net connection they are using. When you comprehend and understand the Nazi system, you will not be startled when you see a message like this. You'll learn a lot more than they taught you there. Broaden your horizons.
Ely heard what Patrick said and nodded her head.
After Leo saw this, he said to Patrick All right. We still have time, so we'll give it another shot. This is not our first time to face a problem like this.
Patrick responded, We have to get back to this message and break it down. This message carries something and we have to know it. The Base expects something from us.
Yeah... you're right. Let us try again,
Ely replied to Patrick.
The whole team got back to work on the message. After hours, Patrick asked Ely again, Ely, please tell me you got something?
Unfortunately, no! Still I’m working on it. All that I got is written in this note. Names and words may help us to break the message. I will keep digging.
Good. I will read it. Now, I need you to take a break. You came to us from a long way and started the work from the first step in this camp. It’s better for you to take a rest and sleep. You became one of us. It's your time to take some fresh air outside this tent.
What!? Why?
"It’s not what I want, Ely. It’s our regular routine here... a
