On the Journey—it was a pleasure reading this book. The contents of each journey were so realistic and practical to daily living that I just could not stop reading. This book really empowers me as a Christian, and I would recommend it as a must-read for every individual. The original songs that came out of each teaching were just amazing. On the Journey invites the reader to listen to some of the personal conversations that Rev. Ellen Thomas has with the Lord as she traverses the length and breadth of Jamaica daily to minister to inmates in penal institutions. Through Ellen’s encounters on these journeys, she shares aspects of her own faith journey with God, describing His providential care and sharing useful nuggets and exhortations from God’s Word. Her frank, down-to-earth accounts of her conversations and fellowship with God remind us that the God of the universe is deeply interested in the nitty-gritty aspects of our lives and welcomes our relationship with Him to address them. Ellen’s gift as a teacher of the Word is reflected in her skillful use of mnemonics, which is a dominant feature of the book and makes it easy for the average reader to remember the key points being made. We are inspired by the spiritual insights emanating from her conversations with God and encouraged by her victories along the journey. Written in a language and style that is easy to read, On the Journey makes it possible for us to be challenged and inspired to deepen our own walk with God and so experience the warm, rich, and intimate fellowship that results.

This inspired book of revelations along the road of life of a Christian chaplain is rife with signposts useful for one and all. All humanity traverses a path on which there are many surprises, some steep challenges, and curious turns which can significantly hamper arrival at the desired destination. Every road leads somewhere, and the road of life leads to death or to life, depending on how it is engaged.

In this gem of a guidebook, Rev. Thomas discloses a direct and personal way of how she perceives the presence of God in her daily walk. She speaks personally and lovingly of a God who has an interest in the finest detail of our life’s journey while also disclosing her own loving concern for people. She confidently relies on God’s abiding presence and on the wisdom provided by His written Word of Scripture.

Interestingly, in her professional endeavors, her work exposes her to many individuals and groups who have fallen foul of the law: Taken a wrong turn in the journey. Through her insights, hope abounds. Her book is a gift to anyone who, in the twisting journey of life, needs to consider an alternative route. Humanity yearns for restoration and holiness. Attaining that destinations requires direction.

Rev. Thomas points the way by unreservedly shedding her beam of light towards the One, the only One who can take the if out of life. It is a good read that leads to the right place, life’s most desired destination.
