Pearls & Pigs - Teresa Lynn
Prologue
Kate is a college freshman at Baylor University in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Grace Jones is a forty-one-year-old bookkeeper who works from home. She graduated from Baylor and lives with her husband near campus, on Brabson street.
Kate met Grace walking to her apartment. Kate loved the Brabson Street route because it is a historic neighborhood.
Kate happened by the Jones’ house and not thinking anyone was home, she sat down on a wooden bench surrounded by white flowers.
Grace saw her and said, "Like my flowers.
Kate answered, Yes, they are lovely. I’m sorry. I had no right to sit down on your bench.
Grace said, Thank you. It’s fine. That’s why I put the bench there. I’m Grace and the flowers are azaleas.
They exchanged small talk. Grace told Kate to stop by the same time next week and they could visit on her porch swing. Kate agreed. That is how their friendship began.

Pearls and Pigs
Kate and Grace are seated on the porch swing. There is a small table next to them with a pitcher of lemonade and two glasses.
Grace says to Kate, What do you mean, you don’t know what to do about your relationship? Didn’t anyone ever tell you not to give your pearls to pigs?
Kate looks up with confusion in her eyes.
It’s an expression from the Bible. ‘Don't give what is holy to dogs or throw your pearls to pigs. Otherwise, they will trample them and then tear you to pieces,’ Matthew 7:6, God’s Word version.
Kate says, That is harsh. He’s a human being. I don’t think you should call him names.
Grace chuckles a bit. She explains, A pig is someone or something that you give the best of yourself to and then they don’t value your worth. It is the way a pig would trample pearls if they were in its pen.
Kate said, I see what you mean now.
Grace says, Enjoy your lemonade while I tell you a story.
"There was a girl named Lila. To Lila, sex was as empty as her wine bottles. I hope you never feel that, but most of us have at various times. Empty
