ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
I want to pay tribute first of all to Almighty God. I thank Him for His many blessings in my life, and the gift of His Son, through whom I have been given eternal life.
To my late mother, Hetlin Alveto Major (Nee Bevans) who even before I knew anything about God and His Word, as far back as I can remember, placed the fear of God in me. Many nights after dinner and before bedtime she would gather me and my siblings around the table and tell us about Judgment day. She would read from the Bible in the areas that speak to being saved. She was well-versed in the book of Revelation also. Sometimes I wanted to ask her, What did I do?
She made a believer out of me. I am still baffled that she only had an all-age school Education and was so able to expound the Bible so profoundly. Her exposition stands out even today. Sometimes when I hear ministers interpret Scripture, I would say, mother told us that in the 1950’s
. My gratitude to God for her is endless. When my father was home from work, some nights there would be church service in our house. I would be the one to handle the Word, while the others would sing and pray, and sometimes we had to do memory verses.
I also wish to acknowledge the following persons, some of whom were very inspirational to me in my life as a young Christian. Some were up to four and five decades my senior, but our relationship was as if I was their contemporary. Each of them had a special Word of courage for me as a young Christian every time we met. Sometimes we would sit whether in their homes or wherever we met, and spend hours talking about the Lord. Some things I did not understand until later, even after some of them were deceased. I only wish they were still here to see how God brought their Word through on my life. I am so grateful to God that I was able to have these men mentor me. Even as I reflect on the past with them, my heart is overwhelmed. How I wish they were here just to express my gratitude to them in some special way.
Bishop Calvin Saunders (late), my mentoring Pastor. His preaching penetrated my heart and impacted my life. Many times I sat in his home, and he would just humbly give me Words of wisdom, on how to discipline myself as a Christian, and he said it will not be without a fight from the enemy. On one occasion he said, Your biggest hurt will come from the church.
I thought he went off the deep end when he said that, but it came to pass. I owe a lot of my spiritual life success to his mentoring.
Rev. Bartholomew McIntosh (late), a Baptist pastor. As with Bishop Saunders, Rev. McIntosh had his Words of courage for me. There are so many times we sat down to talk about God and the Ministry, and at the end, he would say, Prove faithful Brother Major and the Lord will use you mightily.
Rev. Thomas McIntosh (late) a Baptist pastor. We spent many days together at his home, and sometimes he would be at our house. He would talk about the goodness of God, and upon leaving, he would say, Be encouraged Bro Major the Lord will keep you.
Rev. Ezekiel McIntosh, son of late Rev Thomas McIntosh. Like his father and the others, I am like a son to him. Every time we meet or talk his Words are so inspirational, I do feel like his son. We would often share Biblical thoughts that would confirm or answer my quest. He would always say, Just be encouraged
Rev. Copeland Morley, an Evangelical pastor. He always had a Word of courage for me. Many times we sat and talk about the goodness of God. Rev. Morley always had a burning passion for young people to develop in Ministry and was a great source of courage to me.
Bishop Harcourt Pinder (late). We live on different Islands, but when we met at Conventions or otherwise, he would always express his appreciation for me, congratulate me on any success that he would have heard I made. His Words would be, Keep going, Bro. Major, you’re doing great, God will guide you.
Rev. Ms Pearl Lowe. I would see her at conventions, and she was always an inspiration. Although I was very young she impacted my life as a Christian in her faithfulness to the Church, and in our fellowship. She would say Keep up the good work Bro. Major the Lord is going to bless you.
The Rev. Samuel L. Cooper (late), my favourite Bible Teacher and scholar. One of the times I visited his home, we talked about teaching the Word of God. He also knew how I admired his ministry of the Word. One day I said to him, If the Lord could give me half of the ability that you have with ministering the Word, I will be happy.
He looked at me and smiled, he said, Well the Lord is going to do that and more for you, but remember, some things in the Bible you will have to teach, people will think you’re crazy, but don’t let it upset you.
It didn’t take long to experience that one. Sometimes it feels like his presence is with me every time I stand to minister.
Rev. Dr Barzil Brooks (Late), my Lecturer and or Instructor in Theology. We met in Sunday school. I was teaching, and he sat in on the class. When service was over, he came to me and said how much he enjoyed the Sunday school lesson and asked me which school I did do my studies of the Bible with. He was both impressed and astonished to learn that I had not done any formal studies because it was too expensive for me to go away at the time. He told me about a college in London that had an extension in Nassau and suggested that if I think of doing a course in Theology I should get registered with that school. He said, but nothing beats God’s anointing. I later found out that he was a great lecturer and representative of that college. I thought about it for a while then I proceeded with the study program. It took some years of research, study, writing papers, etc. but God made me successful for which I am grateful.
Ministers of the Congregation where I worship who contributed to my life on a person to person basis:
Rev. Leroy McIntosh, Rev. Hubert Saunders. Rev. Arnold Adderley, Rev. Jeffrey Cox, Rev. Jeremiah Russell, Bro. Joseph Wright.
There was also a good deal of encouragement from sisters in the Church at that time. Being many years my senior, made me feel like their little boy, and it was so pleasant to fellowship with them
Rev. Willard Gardiner, a Baptist Minister, was also one of the men who gave me advice, counsel, guidance, and spiritual discipline for developing my spiritual life on a person-to-person basis. Most of them are now gone on to be with the Lord, but what I received from them I hold very dearly. It will continue to feed my spiritual life for the rest of my life. There are many other brothers and sisters within the congregation where I grew up, who have deposited spiritual values into my life. I also thank the wider Church community of Abaco, especially North Abaco, for having contributed to my spiritual life.
My Church work and development was under my two former Pastors in the Church of God, Bishop Calvin Saunders, my Mentoring Pastor, and Bishop Archelaus William Cooper.
FOREWORD
We know that everything that bears a Christian label is not Christian. You can see Christian labels everywhere, yet the opposite is true when you open the container, but the matter is left for God to deal with in His time. The foundation of God stands firm and the Lord knows them that are His, II Timothy 2:19. Many preach and prophesy and they do a lot of what appears to be good works, but their spiritual substance is non-existence. Christians don’t go around pointing fingers, even when they know the truth. They don’t rebuke unless they are prompted by the Holy Spirit to do so. Many of the problems or issues are left totally up to God to deal with in His time.
However, by His Spirit, we are not left ignorant. His Spirit teaches and guides the Christian into all Truth. God is the ultimate authority, and judge of all matters
