Tom Cintula is an independent author and writer who was born, raised
and currently resides in Staten Island, New York. He is a graduate of
The College of Staten Island with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology
and Anthropology. His previous writing credits include contributions
for The Borgen Project, Tribune Sports, and All Access MMA.
The following literary effort is dedicated to those who have experienced deep
trauma, personal and professional setbacks, along with overall identity struggles.
This includes those who have found a way to cope regularly with their issues and
those who have succumbed to them. Whoever you are, this piece goes out to those
who have been through it…whatever…it may be. This also goes to those who have
helped me go through it, too. But only a certain part of it, since I’ve been through
some things alone. Those, in which, I had to find out on my own. Otherwise, in
times where help is needed, you either have to go it alone or build a legion of allies
to guide you. That’s something that we all discover at some point in our lives.
I would also like to thank my family for their unwavering support in my successes
and failures. At times, where I needed it, when I didn’t need it, when I didn’t ask
for it, but needed it, and when I asked for it, but having them tell me to find out
on my own. That’s still, in some way, a level of support. Low, but shows that they
know you can do it without them, which will give you the power to do anything.
The point is, though…we’re not always alone.
GIVING MORE THAN WE
