Madison woke up to the sound of a heart monitor. She heard men’s voices whispering in hushed tones. She couldn’t make out a single word they were saying. It all sounded like gibberish. She tried to open her eyes but her head was pounding. She tried to lift her head, but her neck refused to obey her brain’s commands.

Abort the mission. She tried to just listen.

After a few minutes, she realized that she couldn’t understand the gibberish because it wasn’t English. She tried to open her eyes and remember where she was or what had happened. The place didn’t smell familiar. The languages weren’t familiar either.

She tried to remember. Then, she remembered Gordon. She remembered screaming…

Madison fluttered her eyes open and gasped for breath as she remembered Gordon throwing her down the stairs before she knocked out.

This time, the words were in English. Diego rushed to her side along with Win and Hans.

Win kissed her forehead, Thank goodness.

How much longer must they keep her here? Hans asked in a hushed voice.

Shh, Win hushed him.

Diego took her hand and looked into Madison’s eyes.

How are you feeling? He asked.

Even as he was touching her gently, Madison could feel the powerful force in his arms.

I’m… tired… Madison mumbled.

We should let her rest, Win asserted.

We should see what the doctor says, Hans snapped back.

Where am I? Madison whispered hoarsely.

Despite the IV in her arm, her mouth was still bone dry. She raised her head and looked around, trying to determine where she was.

Still at the palace, Diego filled her in, The Bidlake’s royal doctor is attending you.

Madison rested her head and closed her eyes again. The men barked a few words in German at each other and then Hans left the room. Diego held her hand and pressed it to his lips.

We’re getting the doctor in.

Win left the room to follow Hans. Diego stood over Madison and she opened her eyes after a few minutes.
