About this ebook
The times are changing for the inhabitants of the world's largest island of Greenland.
Percy is an eleven year old polar bear; who is noticing that the world for him, is becoming different. Readers go on a journey with Percy to search for food and join the battle to stay alive in this harsh, but enjoyable world for a polar bear. Percy tries hard to find food and then love, as the reader becomes invested in Percy's plight to win the heart of Kâlîna; a female polar bear.
Percy Polar Bear gives you his perspective on the changing nature of the habitat in which the Polar Bears of Greenland live. Go along with Percy, as 'Anniita the Arctic Fox' tags along behind; looking to pick off the scraps of food that Percy may leave behind. The search for food, as Percy openly tells you, becomes more and more difficult with each passing year. The world is changing and Percy is trying to make sense of it. The story introduces you to the world's largest island of Greenland. Through Percy's point of view you get to marvel at this piece of the world, whilst reflecting upon the changes to the climate that are affecting life in this marvelous place.
When Anniita the Arctic Fox follows behind Percy in his search for food, it allows the introduction of the biological concept of commensalism - where one species obtains food or other benefits from the other without either harming or benefiting the latter. This helps to achieve a balance between an engaging story; centered around a search for food and recognizing and adapting to change, whilst incorporating true facts about the habitat and the creatures that live there.
Join Percy on the journey to food and to discovery; learning how to embrace and adapt to the changing world. There is an unavoidable distraction for Percy on the road to survival and understanding the changing world. Kâlîna is the most radiant and sweet smelling polar bear that he has even come across. Percy also tries to rise to the challenge of winning Kâlîna's, but he must compete with the young polar bear; Salik for that honour.
*Author's note; this book is perfectly suitable to be read independently by those aged 7 years old upwards. However, parent / adult commentary may be required for chapter 6. This book is fully supportive of Montessori education and is an honest, updated account of the world of the modern polar bear. Therefore, the theme of animal cannibalism is touched upon in chapter 6. This is covered in an objective, non-glorified way and is a key to understanding the modern world in which the polar bear dwells.*

I have also published another book of my plays entitled 'SHORTS' and also two children’s’ books; 'Harry the Tortoise (is on his way)' and ‘Bryony the Blue-Footed Booby’. My aim, always, when writing is to make reading fun. This is why I chose to write 'Harry the Tortoise (is on his way)' from the point of view of a strawberry obsessed; red-footed tortoise. A theme I continued when choosing to write ‘Bryony the Blue-Footed Booby’ from the point of view of a blue-footed booby living in the Galapagos Islands. I hope you enjoy my work.

Percy Polar Bear – Changing Times
Chapter 1: Water from the Sky
Raindrops keep falling on my head. This is probably not unusual for you, but it is for me. I’m Percy and I am a polar bear living in Greenland.
I am fully aware of the fact that ‘rain’ is not an unusual sight in so many other places in this world. However, it is rare to have rain here in Greenland. I love it here; it is the biggest island in the world. It is plenty big enough for the biggest type of bear in the world.
This is the first bit of rain we have ever had. My world and that of the polar bear is changing. I spend a lot of time alone; it is the way we bears live our lives and always have done. Although, I really do wonder what are other polar bears making of this?
The world is changing and although you may think a bit of rain won’t hurt you; it’s what it means that is the problem. You see, the reason it has never rained here before is because it is supposed to be too cold. It is not meant to rain in Greenland. It means that it is getting warmer.
I know that humans and many other creatures celebrate when it gets warmer. You even travel to places that are warmer to go on holiday. Here in Greenland the largest island in the world, rain is not good. It is because it melts the ice; my home. You see I live on the ice; I built my den on it. I notice each year, as I build my den that the amount of ice on the ground is reducing. This is extremely worrying for me and my species.
I am eleven years old and I have noticed since I was a cub that it’s getting warmer. As you probably know, Polar Bears have thick fur and weigh a lot. We were born this way. It is because we live in the cold and we love it when it is freezing. This is why I am sad that it is getting warmer. I don’t like complaining. I’m a happy polar bear by nature, but this really makes me sad.
Don’t get me wrong, I know this hasn’t been the only time that the area my species lives in has become warmer. It’s happened during my mum’s lifetime, my grandma’s lifetime, my
