ALL OR NOTHING FISHING

PERHAPS THE GREATEST thing about angling is that there are so many disciplines to enthuse us, be it lure fishing, light rock fishing, taking part in matches or putting out a big trying a specimen-sized fish and get your name among the British record holders.

February is my least favourite month of the year because the temperatures are normally off-putting and the fishing doesn’t seem to be as productive. Don’t get me wrong there are some good fish to be caught, but the cod thin out at my favoured venues, the rays stay further offshore and I am in eager anticipation of the spring species coming near the beaches.

Last February I tried something a little different and planned a shore fishing trip away from my home in Dorset to chase down the magical common skate in the Highlands of Scotland.
