WINTER IS COMING
As I sit and write this, the entire world is consumed by the pandemic of Coronavirus. I am firmly in the middle of this unprecedented health care crisis. Between the time I write this and when this magazine is published, there will be great changes in the number infected, the outcomes of those who get sick and the drastic effects this unprecedented event has on our economy. But the fish will still be out there, and in terms of social distancing, fishing is one of the safest recreational activities there is, provided you don’t fish in a crowd. A lot of people will lose their jobs and the focus on non- essential spending will have a devastating effect on tackle shops, boat sales, guided fishing operations and anyone who had planned to fish overseas. We all need to counteract this by going fishing as much as we can through this health crisis, and supporting local businesses as much as possible.
For many of us fishing is therapeutic. As a health care worker working in one of the busiest emergency departments in the country, I find I need my boat time to replenish myself so I can do my job effectively. In
