I taught English in Bavaria for three years. During that time I also studied German. I learned how to speak to people so they can understand my English. At first, I was speaking at a NY pace and no one knew what I meant, but after time I perfected the craft. I wrote this book because I understand this is the best way to learn grammar and sentence structure.

A New York Minute - Donald Csorny
The English Class
My family said New York is big, but my family has never been to New York. My best friend said New Yorkers are serious . But my friend has never been to New York either . He has only seen New Yorkers on television. What is a normal New Yorker?
I am Benedict. I come from Germany. I have been living in New York for a month. It’s Autumn now and the weather here is cold, but it is fun here. I need to learn English while I am living here. I haven’t learned a lot of English yet. First, I must use it in real life. And that is not so easy.
I live in Manhattan. Manhattan is very international. People from all over the world live here. I live in an apartment. I live in my apartment with three other men.
I have one roommate from Brazil. His name is Lars. Lars is wild and funny. I have another roommate from China. His name is Zimo. Zimo is intelligent and arrogant. My third roommate’s name is Alexander. He is from Russia, and he is different than Zimo. He is quiet and calm. We all visit different places in New York together.
We are all taking an English class together. Our classroom is a very interesting place! We take our class on the 38th floor of the Empire State Building.
Although, our classroom is in an interesting place our teacher is boring.
Our teacher’s name is Mrs. Hennessy. She is old and boring. I feel bored when I’m in her class. The class is 6 hours long! On Mondays, we learn grammar all day. Mrs. Hennessy calls it Grammar Mondays. Everyone in the class doesn’t like Grammar Mondays.
Yesterday we got a lot of homework. I was not going to do the homework. So, I threw it in the garbage. Mrs. Hennessy saw me throw it in the garbage. I felt nervous and tried to pick it back up..... I didn’t pick it up in time. Mrs. Hennessy was so disappointed in me.
I’m sorry,
I said.
"Benedict you won’t learn English if you don’t try," Mrs. Hennessey explained.
