    Not Yet

God, I cried. God, I have never asked you before as I am asking you now to take me out of this job . I was being real with God. I was talking to him as a son speaks to his father with respect, but with a bit of frustration. God responded to me with two words and with a firm voice as a stern dad would. He simply said, Not yet! I have learned by now to know God’s voice when He speaks. I have also learned that when He responds to me in such a manner, I need to listen, not ask questions, but just do as I am told.

I responded, Okay, God, thank you. I got up from my knees, and my entire countenance changed. I know that God has His reasons, and I had stopped asking why a while ago when He had given me the answer to my question, Why? What was His answer to that question? You may be asking. His answer was For My glory! I had opened the Bible during one of my worst tribulations, and I had asked God, Why? Why is this happening to me, even though I have been a good person and I have always worshipped, served, and feared Him? I opened the Word to Isaiah 48:11 where He answered, For My glory. My eyes went directly to these words, and they had seemed to be the only words on the page when I read it. Thereafter, I stopped asking God why to a certain degree.

With the words Not yet in mind, I went to work the next morning with a renewed enthusiasm to be at my job. I was working at a telemarketing job. I was thankful for the job, don’t get me wrong. The issue was the way in which the company was conducted and the uncertainty of one’s position or even if you had a job from one day to the next.

I was getting tired of seeing people hurt, mostly mentally and emotionally. There were quite a few Christ followers, and some of us were able to form little bonds, and I would like to think that we were the only light of Christ that a lot of our coworkers would ever see or experience. Therefore, I tried to thank God the entire time that I was there, even though I didn’t know all the reasons why He had me at the job. I prayed that He would use me to be the light that others needed to see. I decided to give it all to God and let Him do the work, which needed to be done. I thought and prayed, Your will be done.

I recalled and often read Proverbs 3:11–12, which reads: My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary of his correction: For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth. Knowing that God knows best and that he has something better in place for me and that life always turns out better when I listened, I decided to put on a happy face and mean it from the heart and move forward. As the apostle Paul said in Acts when he was talking to King Agrippa, I think myself happy, king Agrippa, because I shall answer for myself this day before thee touching all the things whereof I am accused of the Jews (Acts 26:2).

    Take Your Own Advice

It so happened that I was just starting out with my real estate business, and I was in the process of showing a few clients properties. I had been showing properties as often as I could when I was not working my regular job. I was trying to supplement my income and eventually get away from the telemarketing job. It seemed that I was always trying to convince my clients of the benefits of buying versus renting. While I was sitting at my telemarketing job one day, I thought to myself, Why don’t you take your own advice? I thought, Hmm. That’s not such a bad idea.

You see, at that moment I was a renter, and my lease was coming to an end. While I was looking for properties for my clients to purchase, I was looking for rental properties for myself. It seemed that every rental I saw and liked, I would miss what I thought to be an opportunity and I would not get the rental unit. I had firsthand experience that renting cost more than owning and there was no return for your rent paid. While buying, on the other hand, one was putting money back into one’s own pocket. In addition to building your own equity in your own home, as a homeowner, the
