Jenna put on her lip gloss and gave herself one final look in the mirror. She looked good and nodded at herself in approval. Grabbing her phone and keys, she walked out of her apartment and headed to her friend’s house for the New Year’s Eve party.

Hey, Jenna! Victoria greeted her as she walked into her friend’s house, holding out a margarita. I just made a batch.

Thanks! Jenna said, taking the colorful drink and taking a big sip. Mmm! This is delicious.

Jenna laughed. Let me finish this one, and then we’ll see. I gotta save room for champagne at midnight too, you know. And I do want to remember tonight.

Victoria laughed. Hey, did I tell you Kurt’s cousin, Jeff, is coming tonight?

No. Jenna could tell by the look in her friend’s eye that Victoria had a set-up in mind.

He’s cute, Victoria said with a wink.

Jenna laughed. Ok. I’ll keep an eye out for him. Anyone else coming I should know about?

Victoria laughed. No. Just the usual group. All our friends. It’ll be a blast. I’m so excited!

To the best New Year’s Eve party ever! Jenna said, holding up her drink. Victoria grabbed her own glass and toasted with her friend. Then the doorbell rang and the other party guests started arriving.

Two margaritas in, Jenna told herself to slow down, but she was having a blast at the party. All of their mutual friends were there, including some friends Jenna hadn’t seen in years. She saw Jeff arrive, but hadn’t yet spoken to him. Victoria was right; he was cute, but Jenna was more in the mood for a fun party and catching up with old friends, than a blind date.

Why haven’t you talked to Jeff yet? Victoria asked discreetly as they both refilled their glasses.

Jenna laughed. One thing about Victoria, she didn’t give up. I’m enjoying catching up with everyone. Jeff is cute though. She eyed him across the room. He was just her type, she couldn’t deny that. For a brief second, he caught her staring at him and their eyes met. Then the moment was interrupted when Georgia walked up.

Ladies! Happy New Year! Georgia said, refilling her own glass. Victoria, this party is the bomb! Thank you for putting it together.

I’m glad you’re having fun! Victoria said. Just then someone cranked up the music and dancing erupted in the living room. Time to par-tay! Victoria said, raising her glass and making her way to the group who had gathered to dance.

The next two and a half hours passed in a blur of fun, dancing, and laughing. Jenna hadn’t had this much fun at a party since college. She had danced, caught up with her old friends, and enjoyed the night without a care in the world.

Midnight quickly approached and before they knew it, the ball was dropping. Victoria turned up the volume and the party goers counted down along with the people on TV.

Happy New Year!! everyone shouted in unison.

The party continued another half hour
