In the early 2000s, Netflix understood that they would eventually have to embrace streaming, as it was inevitable that someone else would do so and beat them to it. They just had to be the first to market with a streaming service.

Netflix’s strategy of exclusive streaming rights and original content changed the economics of the streaming industry, making it possible to offer a fixed price for subscription services. This made competition less fierce, as it was no longer a race to the bottom on pricing.

Scale Economies is the first of the Seven Powers of Scale. It refers to the ability of a company to reduce costs as its size increases. It is the basis of Netflix’s success.
